Have you ever considered seeing a therapist? When you think about the word “therapy,” what comes to mind?

Often, Christians worry that admitting they want to see a therapist is somehow in direct conflict with their belief that God is enough. And yet, despite their deep-rooted faith, they can sense that something is still not quite right in their life. They know they need it and want help, but fear they will dishonor God in the process.

So we become stuck.

But here’s what we aren’t taught. Just as God has provided us with gifted doctors and physicians to help us care for ourselves physically, he has also provided gifted therapists to help us care for ourselves mentally. Maybe, we see our mental health like our spiritual health – a part of our internal well-being that God should address. The truth is both our spiritual and physical health belong to God. And he wants us to care for both.

So today, we are bringing therapy into the light. We all face real-life challenges on a daily basis. Difficult People. Uncontrollable Circumstances. Challenges in Life. The question becomes, how do we cope with them? Therapy often provides an answer.

My brother, Anthony Evans Jr., and co-author, Stacy Kaiser, join me today to discuss how therapy can help you learn the tools you need to deal with life’s challenges without sacrificing your faith. Anthony is a renowned singer-songwriter and producer. And Stacy is a licensed psychotherapist, relationship expert, and speaker. And together, they have written the book, When Faith Meets Therapy. Therapy isn’t about removing faith or your trust in God. Rather, it’s about adding another level of support as you navigate life.

How can the two coexist? Why do they need to both exist? Join us today as we dive into what it looks like when a person of faith decides to:

  • Own their emotional reality
  • Seek tools to navigate life
  • Attend therapy and Love God

Maybe you feel ashamed for feeling like you need therapy. Perhaps you desire it but aren’t quite sure of the steps to take. Therapy should not be taboo. It is simply learning to do what you can and then understanding how to allow God to do what you can’t. It is my hope that our conversation will reassure you. I pray this episode of the podcast gives you the permission you need to do the hard work of self-care. To know that you matter to God. And to understand that allowing others to help you is not dishonoring Him. It is, in fact, allowing them to show you his love through their own unique gifts and talents.

It’s time to get the tools you need to be free.

So, let’s talk faith and therapy!
