Podcast: Play in new window
Everyone has boundaries, and in an ever more connected world, it’s virtually impossible to go a day without hearing about them. As the center of the global self-care conversation, boundaries have been described as the means of keeping the things – and people you don’t want – out of your life. It’s a very convenient concept to place boundaries on others in an effort to keep yourself uninhibited from doing the things you desire.
But sis, (and I hate to break it to you), this isn’t what boundaries are.
So… what the heck are boundaries? Good thing you’re joining me because in this episode, we’re talking all about them.
Boundaries are a means of preservation in a way that aligns with God’s purpose for us.
From the beginning of time, God has set boundaries in our lives to govern our behavior and guide our choices. Boundaries, in this sense, are not for us to determine. God uses boundaries as a means of living out His purpose, and sometimes that may be outside of our comfort.
This may seem like a lot, but the great thing about our boundaries is that within them is God’s grace. We can claim we know when we are at capacity, but oftentimes this is biased toward our comfort. So if God is the only person who knows our true capacity, where do we set our boundaries?
We set our boundaries to the extent of God’s grace. Where God’s grace is limited for a certain situation, place, or person, we can place our boundaries there. This gives us the opportunity to grow within our purpose and live our lives in the way God desires.
When we live within our actual means–as defined by the Holy Spirit’s personal guidance–we are able to preserve ourselves and enjoy the pleasures of life a little more.
Think of it this way – chocolate is one of the best things you can ever consume. Consuming hordes of chocolate, though, can make chocolate a dangerous thing.
On the flip side, consuming a little piece of chocolate cake after a long week of exercise and eating well makes it so much sweeter. Existing within His boundaries lets us enjoy life in ways we couldn’t if we indulged ourselves incessantly.
Boundaries are not meant to disengage you from living your life; they’re meant to keep you within God’s plan. They’ll stretch you, but not past where you can go. Your prosperity starts with living within God’s means. Are you ready for prosperity in your purpose? Join me in this enlightening conversation on building better boundaries!
