Podcast: Play in new window
Have you ever struggled with feeling that you aren’t good enough? Have you ever felt like someone is going to find out you are a fake or that you don’t really belong? The struggle with Imposter Syndrome is real, but it is NOT the truth about you! According to the American Psychological Association, Imposter Syndrome occurs when someone is unable to internalize and accept their success. They often attribute the success they experience to luck rather than actual ability or talent. They live in fear that others will eventually learn they are a fraud.
The irony of Imposter Syndrome is that you are usually ALREADY doing the thing while struggling with these feelings. The key word is feeling. Your feelings don’t always represent the truth about who you are! When you succumb to incorrect feelings, you will shrink back from the very things God has called you to do. Of course we all have areas that need growth and development. That’s a part of life! There is always opportunity for growth and learning. Having room to develop, does not equal being a fraud. It simply means you are human.
Don’t let the feeling of Imposter Syndrome cut off the process of your development! Learn how to call out your own greatness. Align yourself with the truth of God about your identity and stand firm on the Word. You are chosen, accepted, adopted, forgiven, redeemed, predestined for this specific time! We all struggle with the feeling of belonging, but the question is will we do what God is calling us to do or not? We serve a God who is the great I AM and as His children, we get to stand in that truth. You get to say “I am…” because the ultimate I AM has named and called YOU. Even as you are in process, you can be who you are.
Will you choose to align yourself with God’s Word today and resist the urge to give into the feelings of Imposter Syndrome? Your life is a gift and we need the light inside of you to shine bright.
