For many of us, home management is a casual game of cat and mouse: keeping up with laundry, the kitchen, the finances, the kids…our responsibilities end up culminating in a long string of latent and precarious decisions. We put so much effort and care into our careers and family – what’s a little pile of dirty laundry in the corner of my room going to do?

Sis, it’ll do more than you think…

When we lose sync with our home, it comes at the cost of our peace, and if you can’t find peace at work or at home, where else will you find it? Taking control of the rhythms of your home is the best complement to the rhythms of your life, and in this episode, we talk all about finding the tempo for your to-dos, tasks, and time!

Some of you may be more inclined to organizing your life, but for others…there’s no rush. The bottom line of finding your rhythm is planning, and there are three areas in your life where you can begin to train up your tempo:

Food: Everybody’s gotta eat, right? Balancing what’s in the fridge and determining what to eat every night can take up an unnecessary chunk of your energy. Meal planning doesn’t have to be complicated – by taking a day in your week to determine your meals for the next week, you’ll be able to save yourself from sporadic purchases and excessive fuss. You can even go digital! Apps like Plan to Eat can let you create meals and automatically organize a shopping list according to the ingredients listed.

Organization: Unchecked mess over time can snowball into an unchecked home. Cleaning and organizing are the solution, but frivolous spells of both don’t do much to handle the chaos of clutter. Planning your time to organize is as easy as picking a day in the week and setting time to tackle parts of the house. Find a place in your home that’s causing you stress, and do what you can to get it to bring you peace.

All the “To Do’s”: Task management goes hand-in-hand with home management, and the best way to keep track of your to-dos is to write them down! Thankfully, there are many ways to do that – physical planners are a great way to keep personalized tasks organized, but combined with digital calendars and reminders, you can set notifications to keep you accountable to your responsibilities.

These are general tips for getting started, but understanding how to start managing the home can be tricky. The resources are out there, though! Searching on YouTube, Instagram, or blogs can offer a plethora of advice. If you need something physically in front of you, books like Miserly Moms by Johnni McCoy and Confessions of an Organized Homemaker by Deniece Schofield give you specific and applicable tools for taking back your tempo.

There will be times when your tempo goes out of whack, but having a solid and healthy rhythm for home is much better than making up for it with exhaustion due to lack of planning. Don’t create a cacophony in your casa! Join me as we prioritize peace and get the tools to reclaim our rhythm!
