What a friend we have in Jesus. If I close my eyes, I can hear the melody of this hymn in my head. And while the lyrics ring true, there are times that I have to remind myself that Jesus is indeed my friend.

Of course, I understand this in my head, but sometimes my heart takes a while to catch up.

Have you ever felt this way? Maybe you believed your friendship with Jesus was solid until something completely shook up your life.

Listen, I’ve been there.

But when life gets real, it’s an opportunity to move beyond the surface level with what we share with God and include Him in every aspect of our lives.

Through different seasons in my life, I’ve learned that I don’t have to wait until things get rocky to restore my relationship with God.

I was reminded of this when I sat down with Faith Eury Cho, an international speaker, pastor, author, and mom of four. I first met her while on the set of Better Together. Her friendly girl-next-door demeanor was one of the first things I noticed about her. It’s no surprise that she’s written the book “Experiencing Friendship with God.” After all, she has spent her life pursuing a relationship with God, even when no one else in her South Korean family was doing so.

Faith’s story truly inspired me, and I know it will inspire you too. On the latest episode of The Sister Circle Podcast, we talked about:

  • Finding friendship in God
  • Acknowledging God in all your ways
  • Living in the overflow of anointing

During our conversation, Faith shared with me that it wasn’t until she had her fourth child that she felt her friendship with God come into maturity. She felt Him meet her right in the middle of dirty diapers and postpartum exhaustion.

How freeing is that for you and me? To know that even when you feel too tired and too depleted to offer anything to God, He can still meet you right where you are.

He’s just that kind of friend, right? But even the best friendship requires intimacy.

The beauty of intimacy with God is that it allows you to naturally lean into your faith throughout your day, not just while reading a devotional or listening to worship music.

What would happen if you let God into every moment of your life? As Scripture puts it, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:6)

Cultivating consistent communication with the Father will build a closeness with Him that goes beyond a devotional moment. As you share your heart with the Father, the Holy Spirit will begin to open your eyes to things you can’t see on your own.

That is the power of anointing operating in your life. You’re no longer relying on your own strength but rather inviting God in through prayer, praise, and spending time in His presence.

Something transformational will happen when you let down your guard and let go of coming to God as a perfect person. And letting go of other hurts that distort the way we see God.

Through a deeper connection with God, and by giving Him one yes at a time (even if your voice shakes in the process), you will end up where He wants you to be.

Out of all of the friends that you could ever have, your friendship with God is what will sustain you.
