Podcast: Play in new window
Many of us are all too familiar with the age-old saying, “mind over matter.” The truth is that our minds are incredibly powerful, but every now and then, our minds like to play tricks on us and in turn, we end up living out a narrative that’s contrary to who God says we are. I sat down with Dr. Virginia Johnson and talked about this very thing – mental health. I know that mental health seems to be a buzzword today, but it’s essential to discuss what it means to truly be in a mental crisis. How do we take control and seek a healthier mindset?
Dr. Virginia Johnson has a gift of combining an understanding of the brain with an understanding of scripture. Not only is she passionate about dismantling labels around mental health, Dr. Johnson affirms the legitimacy of the way our brains are designed to work. The science of our physical beings is important. It’s also important to remember that God created science.
The Lord has given us guidance for how we can manage our fears, worries, and depression. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us to, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you”. The Lord wants us to lay it all on him. I know that when I begin to feel overwhelmed or try to carry everything myself, I am reminded that my shoulders were not designed to carry my heavy burdens all on their own.
Like many of you, I have experienced trauma in my life but I have learned that I don’t have to be defined by those experiences – and neither do you. You are defined and designed by a God who says you are blessed, chosen, redeemed, and forgiven. (Ephesians 1:3-14 NIV).
This episode of the podcast is full of help for you to learn to think above life’s traumatic experiences. You can identify negative thinking styles and notice the warning signs of past traumas leaking into your day-to-day. My prayer is that, through this chat with Dr. Johnson, you are reminded that God has great things in store for you.
You are not alone! You don’t have to stay stuck! You can live free! We all have difficult seasons and days where we just don’t want to get out of bed but there is HOPE! Today, and every day, choose to speak life over your heart and mind and begin to live a life you love! I believe this podcast will help you believe in the gift of you. No matter what has happened to you; the Lord sees you and calls you WONDERFUL.
