Are you in a season of new experiences at every turn? If you’re struggling with making sense of your current situation, know that it’s okay to do so without shame.

After all, every single woman you know is navigating something.

Maybe you’re a new mom learning how to care for a little one for the first time. Maybe you’re moving to a place where nobody knows your name. Maybe you’re changing careers without a blueprint for your new path.

New experiences, whether planned or unexpected, almost always come with a great deal of change. A lack of direction and support can leave you feeling uneasy as if you’re walking on shaky ground.

But sometimes, it’s the toughest seasons that bring you closer to God.

Through the twists and turns of life, Maya Washington (known on YouTube as Shameless Maya) has learned to lean into her faith like never before. As a wife and mom of a young daughter, she’s having to figure out new life experiences while living abroad in Sweden.

Maya joined me for a special conversation about her new book, My Shameless Struggle into Motherhood, and her experience:

  • Navigating life as a content creator
  • Managing postpartum struggles
  • Prioritizing internal gains over external success
  • Learning how to submit in marriage

Maya’s transparency in this chat encourages us all to take a look at our spiritual commitment. Your personal faith walk will take many forms throughout your life. And when you begin to feel unsteady, it might  just be the right time to examine the foundation of your faith.

In my own transparency, I’ve learned that people learn from my life and that’s good. However, people may also look at my life and assume that my faith walk has been easy. I mean, there certainly is something to be said for being surrounded by Scripture and sermons. But even so, there came a point when I couldn’t rely on the faith of my family.

I had to get to know God for myself.

I had to open up the Word and spend time with God. I had to cry out to Him when there seemed to be nothing but obstacles in my way. I had to go beyond the surface and develop a deep relationship with the One who would see me through it all.

Maybe you feel left to figure out this season of your life by yourself, but my friend, you’re not alone…even though I’m sure it seems that way.

I find that the enemy doesn’t have to work very hard to isolate me in my struggles. And while I’ve been blessed to have the support of my community (shout out to my sister circle), there is something special about the moments when it’s just me and God.

When I had nowhere else to turn, He reminded me that He was right there all along.

Different seasons can put a distance between you and the people in your life. If no one’s around to show you the ropes, you may begin to wonder if you’re doing things the right way.

But don’t overlook this season. This is a good time to block out any other voices and let the Holy Spirit guide you. Then, you’ll have a strong foundation when you’re ready to cultivate relationships.

As hard as it may be, lean into what God is doing in this season of your life. There’s no shame in taking time to rebuild your foundation.

With time in His Word and trust in His plan, you’ll be able to go beyond the surface of faith and discover a real relationship with God. The next season of your life depends on it.
