Podcast: Play in new window
If you are from Texas, or even if you’ve just heard about Texas summers, then you know it can get pretty hot here. In fact, some days it is so hot you simply refuse to go outside. No one wants to operate in that kind of heat.
Yet, there are times when the heat we feel does not relate to the temperature of our surroundings. It is an internal heat. A heat driven by the circumstances of the season of life we are walking through. What happens then? We can still choose to just avoid the heat. And sometimes that is exactly what we need to do. We need to pause, pray and allow things to “cool off” around us before we make a move. But there are times, when the heat is rising in our life and we need to muscle up and figure out how to create our own moments of shade while still facing the rising temperatures head on.
There’s no avoiding life’s difficult seasons. They are a part of the ebb and flow of life. But you are the only person that knows when you are about to overheat. You are the only one that knows when you’ve had all you can take. And you are the only one who knows exactly what you need spiritually, mentally and emotionally to be filled.
Having a strong girl summer means learning how to work with what you have. It means understanding what we need. And it means showing up for your life. Do more than acknowledge hard seasons, rather find a way to enjoy everything every season has to offer even if it brings a little bit of discomfort. There is always, always opportunity for growth so regardless of the season you are in, keep developing you. Get out there and live your life. In fact, live your best life even though it’s hot. Endure the heat. Let yourself sweat. And know these are the days your life is made of.
As I dig into what it looks like to have a strong girl summer today, I pray you will get a glimpse of how you can overcome the heat of the season by embracing your inner strength. My hope is you will begin to live as though everything you are doing matters. Do not despise the things you endure (Zach 4:10) because you are not the determining factor of what God can and will do with them. It may not be immediate, but the time will come.
Strong is not made all of a sudden it’s made day by day. So let’s get these strong girl summer days started.
