Podcast: Play in new window
In this episode, I sit down with someone incredibly special to me — my Aunt Ruth, Ruth Ann Cannings. She’s a pastor, counselor, speaker, and a woman who has spent decades walking faithfully with God. But what stands out most is the quiet, grounded spiritual authority she carries — not from performance, but from intimacy.
We talk about what spiritual authority really is and what it isn’t. It’s not about how loud we pray or how confident we sound. It’s about knowing who we are in Christ and living from that place. Ruth helps us understand the difference between living like a subject in God’s Kingdom versus a citizen — someone who understands her birthright and walks accordingly.
We also talk honestly about disappointment, unanswered prayers, singleness, and obedience — including how to stay close to God when His answer is no or when life takes an unexpected turn. Ruth shares personal stories that remind us authority doesn’t mean life is easy; it means we know where to turn when it’s hard.
This conversation is pastoral, honest, and deeply encouraging — especially if you’ve ever wondered whether you’re allowed to ask God for what you desire or how to keep trusting Him when the outcome isn’t what you hoped for.
