Podcast: Play in new window
Have you ever found yourself feeling uncomfortable when the topic of race comes up? Do conversations around skin color and prejudice fill you with anxiety? Well, in this episode I had an opportunity to talk with someone who has made it his mission to heal the racial divide. In a time where the long-standing, deeply rooted race issues throughout the U.S. have come to a head, Dr. Derwin Gray takes on the challenge of discussing how Christ would want us to tackle those issues. With a biblical worldview, life experience, and in-depth study, Dr. Gray gives us practical tips on how we can move through our world without pretending that being color blind is the answer.
Dr. Derwin Gray is a former NFL football player turned pastor of a multi-ethnic congregation in South Carolina. His passion for healing the racial divide permeates every corner of his life. Through our conversation, Dr. Gray and I dive deep into race, reconciliation, and redemption. He shares his encounters with prejudice, as well as practical ways to approach healing racial division. We talk about Christ’s redemptive work on the cross and what that means for us as believers.
I have wanted to get to know Dr. Gray for a while, so it was my joy to have this brother jump into The Sister Circle. I found myself nodding my head and saying, “That’s so good!” through the majority of the conversation. His story captivated me as I could see how God finely knit his life together. It is my hope you leave this podcast not only feeling empowered to have those tough conversations, but also a fresh take on what it means to truly love your neighbor.
As you listen to this episode, be open to what God may be speaking to you through this conversation. He doesn’t call us to everything, but He calls us to do something. Whether that’s a call to be a voice for racial reconciliation, or a call to a more intimate prayer life, be open to what the Spirit is saying. Let’s dive in!
