Have you been asking God to bless you with more? Do you long to finally receive all that you’ve been praying for? What if God is waiting for you to release the things you’re holding onto so that you can experience His best for your life?

I know how hard it can be to let go of things God is asking you to let go of. You may think, “If I let go of what I have in my hands, I’ll be left with nothing,” but the truth is you have to release some things to make room to receive more.

If you’re ready for your cup to overflow with blessings, then you have to first be willing to give God something to work with. Not sure where to begin? Here are a few key things to release as you shift from a mindset of lack to a mindset of abundance.

Release the narrative you’ve outgrown

What story are you telling yourself about your life? Sometimes words spoken by other people become limiting beliefs over time. And sometimes your past becomes a cloud of shame and guilt that feels impossible to escape. You tell yourself that you will never be more than who you’ve always been. That you don’t deserve peace, joy, or more in this season. And over time, those beliefs become your identity. The thing is, you can’t fast forward without addressing the weight you’ve been carrying all this time. What narrative are you stuck in? Take your power back and allow yourself to begin writing a new story.

Release impossible standards

I know what it’s like to aim for perfection, only to feel defeated when things don’t go as planned. This happens because plans often fail to factor in real life. When the to-do list from last year is still staring you in the face this year, it’s tempting to tear yourself down, but critiquing yourself won’t get you anywhere but farther from your goals. Maybe you’ve lost a job, a loved one, or simply the motivation to move forward. Maybe you’re in the thick of raising little ones or going after a degree, and your need to control the outcome of this season keeps you from enjoying your life. Whatever the case, I want to encourage you to give yourself all the grace you need to focus on what is going right and release unmet expectations. Take the pressure off yourself. Sometimes your best may not feel good enough, but all that really matters is that you keep going.

Release what isn’t yours to carry

As women, we often take on things that God never called us to. We want to serve on every committee, show up for all the church events, and solve everyone else’s problems. And while it’s admirable to give and serve, we cannot pour from an empty cup. Releasing things that belong to others isn’t a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of wisdom. After all, isn’t it enough to carry our own bags on this journey of life? Let go of the things that are holding you back to create the space for overflow in your life and in the lives of the people you love.

Listen, you were never designed to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You deserve God’s best for your life, but you can’t get there without releasing the pain of your past, impossible standards, and what never belonged to you to begin with.

Let this episode be your reminder that letting go doesn’t mean you lose; it means you set yourself up to gain so much more. As long as you have breath in your body, you have the opportunity to choose a different story for yourself.
