Podcast: Play in new window
Are you trying to live life in neutral to avoid facing the pain of your past?
Oftentimes people who love God may feel as if their emotions are bad and represent the opposite of having faith. So we suppress our feelings rather than seeing them as signals that alert us of issues that need our attention.
While not every feeling you feel should drive you to listen, respond, or follow, feelings can guide you without governing you. Not all of our feelings are true, but they are all real. And they give us clues about what’s happening in our spirit and soul. In fact, when when we pay attention to what’s happening within, the revelation we receive is often God’s invitation to a deeper level of healing. Emotions can be the door through which we have the opportunity to look back, heal, and move forward.
But change and healing are hard work.
And this work requires intentionality.
Even when we create new habits to help us move forward, old habits based on our past pain don’t go away. There’s a tension, and this tension requires us to learn how to address our past without fixating on it. If you need to know how to learn, grow, and move forward, this week’s podcast guest wants to teach you how.
Debra Fileta loves Jesus and allows that love to flow into all she does as a wife, mother, licensed professional counselor, speaker, and author. Debra is also the founder of the Debra Fileta Counselor’s Network and has a weekly podcast, Love and Relationships with Debra Fileta.
Join Debra and I as we discuss her latest book, Reset: Powerful Habits to Own Your Thoughts, Understand Your Feelings and Change Your Life. Debra believes we all have the power, through Christ, to overcome our past and change our default settings. Listen in as Debra and I discuss how to reshape your life and fulfill your purpose by:
- Quieting the external world
- Filtering everything through God
- Addressing the influence of past pain
- Choosing to step toward a new path
One step forward today makes all the difference in getting you closer to the next season of your life.
Yes, there are going to be seasons of heavy lifting and seasons where we have to walk miles in order to keep up. But that’s not going to be every day. Somedays one step forward is enough.
Healing isn’t about simply changing the external actions that reveal you’re broken. It’s about doing the hard work of dealing with what’s going on in your heart and mind. Your intentionality and commitment to this work are required. There is also a need to allow the Lord to reveal what is going on under the surface of your life so you can join him in tuning out the noise and tuning into what’s really happening inside of you.
We have the freedom to choose to live life differently. To create new patterns. To heal.
Or, we have the freedom to not choose to change. To stay stuck in old habits. To not heal.
Either way, we are making a choice.
My question for you is… what choice will you make today?
