Are you paying attention to your body? Unfortunately, most women are so busy keeping up with everything and everyone that it’s hard to notice the alarms going off until it’s too late. But what if you could proactively shift the course of your health now?

Coach Gessie Thompson is all about taking charge of your physical and emotional well-being. As the founder of The Detox Now, she’s been able to help more than 200 women eliminate fibroids and related symptoms, allowing them to overcome significant issues like infertility. She joined me on The Sister Circle couch to share her transformative story of pain evolving into purpose after a 10-year infertility journey (before having her miracle baby, Nia) and a 14-year battle with fibroids. Her real-life experience, combined with her knowledge of the inner workings of a woman’s body, has made her a notable name in the health advocacy space. And even with a large following of women looking to address their health concerns, she’s still committed to helping the everyday woman who wants to take back control of her own health.

According to a study by the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, “Although prevalent among all women, uterine fibroids are uniquely pernicious in Black women, who experience significantly higher rates, with earlier onset and more complex disease.”

Even with this daunting statistic, Coach Gessie believes that preventative measures can be taken against fibroids. Her unique approach involves addressing the root cause and adopting lifestyle choices that lead to better outcomes. Through her work, she’s been able to identify four triggers of fibroids: stress, vitamin D deficiency, chronic inflammation (due to stress and living in fight or flight mode), and hormonal imbalance (traced to diet and harmful hair products). It was comforting to learn that so much of our health can be improved by making little changes, like eating whole foods, eliminating certain products from our cabinets, and embracing peace over performance.

In this episode, Coach Gessie also shares the impact of our emotional health on our overall well-being. Her story is proof that even through trauma and challenges, we can still create room to breathe and release the stress that so many of us carry. And when we take care of ourselves from the inside out, a shift happens that can dramatically change the landscape of our lives forever.

Here are just a few ways we can release stress from our lives:

  • Adopt a lifestyle of proper nutrition and rest
  • Regulate the nervous system through breathing and healing
  • Learn to say no in order to prioritize each yes

So many of us are given diagnoses that leave us feeling hopeless and alone, but knowing that we have the power to change our choices is extremely encouraging.

Maybe you can relate to Gessie’s story of taking a negative circumstance and holding on to that one glimmer of hope with all your might. Sometimes, all it takes is the miracle of another woman’s testimony to believe that the seemingly impossible can happen for you, too. I’m sure that this episode will reignite your faith in a life that supports health and healing.
