Podcast: Play in new window
Have you been so busy planning for your future that you’ve left God out of the mix? With all of the internal and external pressure to push farther faster, what would happen if you decided to lean into God’s provision rather than your productivity?
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, then you know how important planning is to me. After all, I’ve created a planner, tracker, and guides to give you the tools to make the most of your time. But while it’s important to steward your resources well, the only way to truly move the needle forward in your life is to include God in the process.
Here’s how you release the pressure to achieve and pursue peace in your life.
Stop Striving and Start Surrendering
There’s a false sense of security that comes from doing things on your own instead of trusting God. It’s especially difficult to release control when you’re not able to hear Him clearly. You may find yourself headed down the wrong path while pursuing your plans.
Life has taught me that even when it feels like God is taking too long to respond to my requests, the truth is that He can see things that I can’t see.
He also has a way of doing things that our finite minds simply cannot comprehend.
For all my planners out there, I want you to know that the strong nudge you feel to race to the finish line of your goals is a type of pressure that yields anything but peace. You’ll fare so much better when you choose to be still and know that God is the Source from which everything flows. Release the need to strive so that your dreams can soar.
Scripture to remember: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)
Focus on Identity Over Activity
It’s easy to set a goal based on where you want to go, but the best goals are rooted in who you want to be. If you’re wondering what habits to build in this season, first think about who you want to become. Is God calling you to show up right where you are? Are you being led to cultivate a new thing in your life? Taking the time to understand your unique design will help you remain in alignment with His plan for your life. Your habits, goals, and dreams will begin to flow from a place of clarity rather than confusion.
Let Go of Pressure to Pursue Peace
Wouldn’t it be a shame if God was calling you to something totally different than the thing you’re chasing after? That’s why purpose planning requires a keen awareness of your limitations. You only have so much time in each day and so much energy to live out each day. Add in all of your roles and responsibilities, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. But you don’t have to live this way. Plant the seeds that God has given you and nurture what you have one day at a time. Honor your process, give God something to work with, and trust the timing of your life.
There’s something special that happens when you dream with God. This episode will move you closer to living a life you love.
