Podcast: Play in new window
What is keeping you from walking in your full authority? No matter what may be holding you back, with God and with time, you can find your stride again.
As a woman who wears many hats, I have to be intentional about tethering myself to God through every season so that as life begins to shift (as life often does), I will always know where my identity lies.
My identity is more about who I am and less about what I do.
And trust me, what I do is still very much a part of my story.
Take my journey as a homeschool mom, for example. After over twenty years of pouring into my children day in and day out, that season of my life is shifting.
Even as my youngest, most extroverted child is attending traditional school for high school, I’m still surrounded by evidence of my previous season. The stacks of paper, lesson plans, and projects are physical reminders of the days at my kitchen tables, victories won over long algebra problems, and lessons learned about child training that strengthened my discipline as an adult.
I have to admit, I feel a little sad about this season coming to a close, but here’s what I know. Outside of being a homeschool mom, I’m still Chrystal. My life has been deeply tied to the season of motherhood, but my entire life is not defined by one season. And no matter what season of life you’ve come through, you are still you, and your unique identity is worth honoring.
Allow me to share a few ways I’ve learned to keep my identity intact.
Build your identity on a solid foundation.
The shifting seasons of life may throw you for a loop, but a renewed, unshakeable faith will help you reestablish your sense of identity. When you decide to define yourself as someone who is worthy of love, acceptance, and support, then you will begin to believe that you deserve the best in life. You will find it harder to settle for less than God’s best when you understand that royalty is in your DNA. You will also discover the strength to move from one season to the next, knowing that you are blessed regardless of what unfolds in the new season.
Believe that you are royalty.
When you choose to believe what God says about you above all else, you’ll begin to see yourself as the daughter of a King. You must be intentional about believing and accepting what God thinks about you. The enemy wants you to believe that you have to fulfill a role in order to be deemed valuable. He wants you to think that who you are inherently is not good enough. I encourage you to reject those thoughts. Don’t allow fear, complacency, or low self-esteem to keep you bound. Choose to come into agreement with what God says about you. He wants you to live in freedom.
Behave like a queen.
There is no glory in playing small in life, and yet, it often feels like the easiest thing to do. But you have no idea what awaits you when you step into your authority. You don’t have to have it all together. You can reach out for help when you need it. You can walk in humility while still holding your head high. And you can go after your dreams with a fierce confidence that only comes from believing that you are a daughter of the King.
As God reveals the blessings he has for you, don’t allow shame to keep you from engaging with who He says you are and what He says you can have. Don’t allow insecurity or fear to talk you out of His best or other people’s words to make you feel unworthy of His love. When life gets rough, simply choose to straighten your crown.
You are the daughter of a King. Never forget that.

Thank you that was so good,What mire can I say
Not really good at this,But Thank you I think I needed this,
I loved this, absolutely loveeeeeeeed it. It resonated with me because just last night November 6, I was down on myself about thinking that I know nothing. This is after 19 years in academia, all my adult life serving in various capacities in church, wondering what can I offer anyone ( not married) or can I change career now and still be effective, what can I teach my child ( single mom also). Rejection is a real thing I struggle with and when I heard you speak as I drove to work this morning ( November 7, 2024) I know God heard my prayer last night as I tossed and turned in bed.So thank you. I wait on your show every week.Im in Ja.
God Bless your ministry Crystal Evans Hurst(saying it with your attitude 🙂)
