Podcast: Play in new window
Have you taken the time to prepare for what you’ve prayed for?
When we submit our desires to God, we can become so focused on getting to our destination later that we fail to live our lives well in the here and now. Our rush to reach our goals can cause us to feel like giving up and moving too fast in the present.
But there is so much life to be lived in the in-between season.
In between sleepless nights and joyful mornings. In between stressful situations and cheerful celebrations. In between a dream deferred and a dream realized.
It may be hard to see from the bottom of the mountain, but the extra effort you put forth now will set you up for success in the future.
Travis Greene understands the importance of preparation. The “Intentional” singer is a family man and a co-pastor with his wife, Dr. Jackie Greene.
Travis joined me on The Sister Circle Podcast to discuss his debut book, Are You Praying for the Wrong Thing?, and the transformation that takes place when we:
- Do small things well
- Find fulfillment in the present
- Make peace our focus
- Let revelation lead to preparation
If you find yourself always aiming for more, I believe this conversation will shift your focus back in the right direction.
I know it’s hard to live in the moment with social media constantly highlighting everyone’s latest accomplishments and achievements. However, the only person who fully knows the sacrifices attached to someone’s journey is the person living it.
The time you spend focusing on someone else’s life is time you could use to build yourself up.
The space between your “here” and your “there,” while uncomfortable, is an opportunity to develop the traits and behaviors necessary to be trusted with more.
You may not be clear on your purpose or the next steps to take, but slow down a little bit. Try focusing on what you have going on at this stage of your life.
After all, your present situation truly is a gift.
It is a chance for you to serve the family and friends in your life now; to exercise and make healthy choices now; to invest in your skills and abilities now.
Don’t let a delay discourage you from doing what you can right where you are.
And when God moves you into your next season, you’ll know for sure that you can handle all that comes with it because you were able to steward this season well.
My friend, it’s easy to forget that God’s ways are not our ways, but it’s true. (Isaiah 55:8) He sees our future well before we even get there.
Take comfort in knowing that God has more in store for you.
God has you in the palm of His hand. You may feel unsteady where you are but trust that He knows what’s best for you. After all, you can’t control the future. You can only do what you can with what you have.
