Podcast: Play in new window
What is keeping you from taking the leap in your life? If the thought of going after your dreams scares you, then it may be time for a shift in your perspective.
The truth is that leaping can look different for each person and each season of life. Sometimes, you may feel led to lean all the way in and take a major leap. Other times, you might want to play it safe and leap with a plan in your back pocket. Either way, when you leap in partnership with God, there is so much you will gain. As you build toward your goal, you must seek God for the patience, perseverance, and peace that only He can provide.
My conversation with Bible teacher, speaker, and author Rachel G. Scott will encourage you to think of taking the leap in a way that puts your soul at ease. Her new book, “Taking the 5 Leaps: Experiencing God’s Faithfulness as You Respond to His Call,” is a guide for understanding the types of leaps you may find yourself taking and the power of partnering with God in the process.
During our lifegiving chat, Rachel and I also talked about the importance of:
- Seeing yourself the way God sees you
- Being obedient to the last thing God told you to do
- Adjusting your own expectations and outcomes
- Understanding your vision and your calling
When you feel God pulling you in a certain direction, know His provision will carry you through. Whether you feel called to do something major, like leaving your job and starting a business, or something less risky, you can move forward with God at His pace. Take the time to identify your ideas and think about the necessary steps in the process to see them through.
And, of course, you could do all of the planning in the world and still encounter interruptions that take you off course. Life happens to us all.
What I’ve learned through some of my own preparation seasons is that sometimes, we have to take our hands off our ideas and let God do what He wants to do. That’s easier said than done when you are downright exhausted and completely discouraged. But I want to encourage you to spend time with the One who gave you the idea in the first place and to take comfort in Him.
As Scripture reminds us, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (ESV)
I know it’s hard when there seems to be no end in sight. I mean those times when you’re looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, but there’s only darkness in view. Remember that you are not alone. You are partnering with the Father, and His vision for your life is far greater than anything you could conceive. (Isaiah 55:8/Ephesians 3:20)
You may not be able to see it now, but there is beauty in this season of waiting. The lessons that you learn along the way will be worth it in the end. Just rest in His promises and allow yourself to be content with where you are now.
And when you reach your goal, you will be able to say that it all happened in God’s perfect timing. In the meantime, figure out what you need to do to take the leap.
