You think you know yourself until things get tough. When pushed against a wall, you may find yourself – for better or worse – becoming a whole different person. You get quiet. You say everything on your mind. You shut down. You burst at the seams! There’s no way this can be you…right?

BUCKLE UP because in this episode I give you a formal introduction to your pressed-self. This version of you may be difficult to confront, but it reveals so much more than you may think.

You are every version of yourself – the good, the bad, and the pressed. We love focusing on the good version. It feels…well, good! It’s easy to revel in our strengths, but when we address our weaknesses, that’s where we grow. In order to live in the fullness of ourselves, we have to be able to accept and understand our fullest selves.

So…who is this pressed person?

The pressed version of ourselves is an indicator of what we need in moments of stress. Many of us are inclined to hide this version because it conflicts with how we’ve defined ourselves. We aren’t confrontational. We aren’t mean. We don’t shy away. Before you know it, your pressed version tells you otherwise.

Rather than hiding our pressed-selves, it’s much more productive to ask “What do I need? What happened to me?” Seems simple enough, but more often than not we do not give ourselves the freedom to ask these questions. It’s our responsibility to ask and answer them

Answering these questions comes with taking in our environment. The environment is key in understanding what may be pushing our pressed-selves to act up. Don’t get so lost in the climb that you don’t look at the mountain around you! By fully inhabiting our experiences, we help ourselves to see the trouble as it’s cooking before it starts to boil over into our pressed-selves.

Knowing who you are when you are most pressed is just as powerful as knowing who you are when you are at your most powerful. Giving yourself the freedom of knowing who you are at all times saves you the hassle of picking up the pieces after your pressed-self. Listen to you – your life is telling you what you need. Take the initiative to know yourself because you deserve it!

In this episode, I chat about

  • Knowing your pressed-self
  • Taking in your environment
  • Accepting your fullest self

Live in the fullness of you! Accepting yourself is being able to accept every version of you. It’s hard, but your growth requires it. Be encouraged to face your pressed-self – it’s trying to tell you something!
