I’d like to talk to you about the great opportunity that awaits you – that awaits all of us – if we choose to take advantage of it.  We have an opportunity right now to invest consistently.  We have an opportunity to give our “also”; to go above and beyond doing just the bare minimum.  We have an opportunity to operate in excellence because of who our Source is.

My daddy, Dr. Tony Evans always says, “If God is your Source and everyone else is your resource, then you need to be answering to your Source, not your resource”.  See, when God is your Source, He knows the job that will be the best trajectory for you.  You just have to show up and stay committed.  You have to stay planted and not get distracted.  Because when we get distracted and jump ship to pursue other opportunities outside of our Source, we may be bailing on our wealth, bailing on our trajectory, bailing on the good thing that God has for us.

May I remind you of what Satan tempted Jesus with in the wilderness?  Essentially, he told Jesus that if He quit, His hunger would be satisfied.  If He gave up, he would receive applause and accolades.  Satan tried to entice Jesus with opportunities that would solve His problems in the moment.  But Jesus rebuked the distractions offered by Satan.  He knew the temporary solutions or opportunities would not take Him to where He was ultimately to go.

Friends, we need to quit settling.  Don’t move until God tells you to move – even if the salary is greater or the position is thought to be more esteemed.  Keep operating in excellence with the “also” principle where you are currently planted.  And while you are at that place of small beginnings, do not despise them.  While the path you are on may be narrow, don’t stop showing up in excellence.  Both the place of small beginnings and the narrow path may very well be the training ground God is using to ultimately give you a promotion.

Yes, there will be times when staying and serving where you have been planted will require a major sacrifice.  In those times, I encourage you to steward your opportunities well.  Show up on time.  Be a person of your word.  Meet deadlines.  Operate in integrity.  Because there is a correction coming and when you have invested consistently in developing who God wants you to be, when you have waited for God to tell you to move, you will be able to determine your price and not waver.

This means, you must know your value.  Just beware of overinflating your value to your own detriment.  To be safe, James 4:10 reminds us to “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, so that He can lift you up in due season.”

And to those in a position of leadership or authority, know that you are a caretaker of your employee’s souls.  They are spending 8 hours a day, sometimes more, to serve in your organization.  Let them know you care.  Look for their specific gifts and talents and help them to develop them further.  As a leader, your job is to call out in others what they may not see in themselves.

In summary, stay steady.  Realize that God is your Source.  Operate in “also” – go above and beyond.  Do more than what is asked as God leads you.  Remember you are working as unto the Lord.  Know that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing or telling you to do.  They don’t know your path.  Ask God, like the Psalmist, to order your steps by His word (Psalm 119:133). There is nothing like having God promote you. In doing so, we don’t have to strive.

My friends, you cannot dream a better or bigger dream than what God has for you.  Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard what God has planned for you. (1 Corinthians 2:9)  This tells me that God has no intention of you living in the same rut for all of your life. He has no intention for you to be stagnant.  He has no intention for you to not change.  His purpose in having you on this earth is for you to keep growing from glory to glory.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58
