What do you do when you are fed up with your current circumstances, but can’t figure out how to change them?

Oftentimes, motivational speakers speak to those who have money or connections or some worldly influence. They show them how to use what they currently have to help them get to where they want to be. But what are you to do when you don’t have anything except frustration from being where you are?

Eric ET Thomas and I talk about what it’s like to take yourself from nowhere to somewhere. Eric is a world-renowned motivational speaker who believes everyone can live a life they love regardless of their circumstances. Eric describes himself as a poster child for having to start over in life. He started running away from home at the age of 13, has experienced homelessness, and was a high school dropout. He didn’t have grand dreams, goals or desires. And when he hit rock bottom, he didn’t know where he was going to go, but he knew what he didn’t want. And he allowed that to drive him. His hope is to help others, who may also feel hopeless and stuck, to see the way out is by:

  • Focusing on the small wins
  • Knowing what you don’t want
  • Being authentically who God calls you to be

It may seem as though there’s nothing you can do to help your situation. But rock bottom doesn’t mean defeat. There are small wins you can take right in front of you. And those small wins will make you feel good about yourself. They will help build your confidence. They will help you dream again.

Eric knows this first hand. He is not only a world-renowned motivational speaker, he is also a pastor and an author. In his upcoming book, You Owe You, Eric encourages you to recognize your gifts, power and place in the world regardless of your struggle. Your true success is based on your interaction with God and your willingness to do the next small thing. The small thing that doesn’t seem like it will help much right now, but in the hands of God, can become the launching pad for abundantly, exceedingly more than you could ever imagine.

My hope and Eric’s hope is this conversation will help you embrace your journey. Even the moments that feel bad can lead to something great if you don’t get lost in the struggle. You are enough just the way you are. Be authentically who God called you to be and everything you need will come to you. You won’t have to chase it.

Your life, your journey is not a mistake. Don’t let your circumstances convince you otherwise.
