Do you ever feel a little stuck in your comfort zone? Or maybe in the slowing down of the pandemic, you have found it hard to activate your life again and live with intentionality. It is a gift to have those places of comfort, but I want to ensure that our comfort zone doesn’t turn into stagnant living. God did not place us here to be comfortable but to live a faith-filled life of trusting Him and joining in where He is moving.
Today I have three tips for conquering your comfort zone: Reach, Release, and Routine. First, we make the choice to increase our reach and take the step to move beyond where we are comfortable. That first step doesn’t have to be a big step, but the stretching prepares us for movement. Then, we have to release the things that are holding us back. Where is God already moving in your life and inviting you to lean into Him? It can be scary to let go of your spaces and places of comfort, but we have a faithful God who we can trust as we take these steps of faith.
Finally, we get to choose to create a routine of stretching and going a little further. Routine stretching involves a practice of saying yes and choosing obedience over comfort. God loves you too much to leave you where you are, and it’s a beautiful life He has planned for you!
Are you ready to conquer your comfort zone and live out the life God has for you? Let’s step out together!

I do stretches everyday after my aerobics routine. But when Chrystal suggested standing up and bending over and just hanging, I did it but I could barely touch my fingertips on the floor. And the muscles behind my thighs were tight and painful. I was shocked because I’ve always been able to place the palms of my hand flat on the floor from bending over. I held the position for a few seconds until I coudn’t take it any longer. I sat down and continued listening. Every time Chrystal said the word “reach” I’d get up and do that hanging over stretch again until my fingertips rested on the floor. Another time I got up and was able to lay my fingers on the floor but I still couldn’t lay my palms flat. I sat down again listening to the podcast. I was amazed that each time, at the word “stretch,” I was able to go further than the last time. My mind said, “Take off the inch-high slippers dummy and stop pushing yourself.” I told her to shut up. By the end of the podcast I was almost able to lay my hands flat on the floor. I thought to myself, ‘If I do this several times tomorrow, I’ll be able to lay my hands flat on the floor in one-inch high sandals. But I’m clearly out of shape. So I’d better keep this up daily until that painful tightness behind my thighs goes away. I won’t stop then either. That’s how God wants me to do the little bits regularly in everything to reach the Big Bit later. Reminds me of something Dr. Evans once said, “A little bit of regular is better than a whole lot of occasional.”
