Are you an overthinker? If I had to guess, I’d say you are, but you don’t want to admit it because it seems taboo. The reality is, everyone is challenged with overthinking, even myself. if there are categories of overthinkers, I am for sure ranking in the highest level of overthinkers. 2020 has done a number on many of us. Life as we once knew is no longer the same. We are all amateurs at pandemic life, and the soundtracks of our lives have become questions of what’s next, how am I going to do this, will we ever go back to normal. While we still are getting acclimated with our “new” normal, our repeated thoughts, positive or negative, can lead our lives.

Today, I am talking to Jon Acuff, quote master, and New York Times Best Selling Author. In this episode, Jon breaks down his new book, “Soundtracks, The Surprising Solution to Overthinking” and how overthinking doesn’t necessarily need to be stopped, but it needs to be fed with things that are helpful and not things that shift us backwards. Jon gives us practical tools to change the soundtrack of our lives by simply asking ourselves, “what would the opposite of this thought be” and to adapt the soundtrack of what inspires us. We are all inspired by someone or something. Using that inspiration to fuel our thought life is the simplest way to transform the soundtrack of overthinking.

John believes this transformative message is attainable if we do the work. From the boardroom to the stage, down to the home office, it is safe to say that no matter who you are or what you’ve accomplished, if you don’t do the work to change the soundtrack of your life, overthinking will always win.

I hope my conversation with Jon challenges you to pay attention to what resonates with you and change the soundtrack of your life.
