How would your life change if you were more confident? If you’re tired of playing small, there’s no better time than now to step into the fullness of who you are.

True confidence doesn’t happen overnight. It’s difficult to believe the best about yourself when you’ve lived most of your life feeling less than everyone else. But when you decide to live and not only exist, you will find the courage to step out of the shadows and believe in yourself.

My Confidence Journey

I know how hard it can be to rise above insecurities and answer the call that God has on your life. Thinking back to the early days of my Chrystal’s Chronicles Podcast, I didn’t always have the best equipment or know the perfect words to say, but I knew I was called to cultivate something special for a community of women. And as time passed and the podcast evolved into The Sister Circle Podcast, I kept showing up, even finding the courage to show up on camera. I’ve watched God use my yes to reach thousands of women with my podcast, my books, and the Inner Circle community as well.

I share this to remind you that sometimes confidence is found in the moments when you’re most unsure of yourself. After all, I’m still coming to grips with being called “Coach Chrystal” by some of you that I’ve worked closely with. However, I learned over time that when God calls me, I’m already qualified. It’s in my obedience to answering the call that I can now see the purpose of my yes.

And the same is true for you. There are people waiting for you to say yes to the call on your life.

How to Recover From Low Self-Esteem

A lack of assurance in yourself will have you fading into the background of your life. Every interaction will cause you to second-guess your abilities. Past experiences of shame and rejection will lead you to believe that you’ll never measure up to the woman you want to be.

Symptoms of low self-esteem can show up in a myriad of ways, like when:

  • You can’t find the courage to speak up in meetings
  • Crippling thoughts cause you to question your place in other people’s lives
  • The goal you’ve had for years feels impossible to achieve

But it all starts in the mind. What you think about yourself can propel you forward or hold you back indefinitely.

Practical Ways to Cultivate Confidence

You weren’t meant to live a life that is limited to negative beliefs. You’re not limited to what people have said about you. You’re not even limited to who you were yesterday. You can learn to love every part of your unique design.

Here are ways to begin the process:

  • Play to your strengths – Fill up post-it notes with your positive attributes and place them on your mirror
  • Get to know yourself – Make time for an interest or hobby you’ve always wanted to pursue
  • Detox from digital – Take a break from social media or anything that causes you to compare yourself to others
  • Consider your Source – Write encouraging Scriptures on an index card and read them when you need to remember who you are

While these steps seem simple, when done consistently and in step with God’s Word, you will notice a shift in your life. You will feel empowered to take every thought to God and allow what He says about you to ring louder than anything else. As the Donald Lawrence song says, “Sometimes you have to encourage yourself.”

There is power in speaking life over yourself (Proverbs 18:21). Just as a gardener is careful to dig up weeds and plant new seeds in fresh soil, God is gracious to replace the pain of rejection and fear with new seeds of acceptance and love.

God made you for such a time as this. Never forget that you are already enough.
