What would it look like for you to take one day away from everything?

We often prioritize our schedules based on the demands of those around us. We pour our hearts and souls into everything and everyone except ourselves. And then, we reach a point where the pouring seems overwhelming and we don’t know what to do. We can’t figure out why we don’t have peace if we are doing so much good. But what would it look like if peace were our first pursuit and everything else came from the overflow?


Morgan Harper Nichols and I dig into what it looks like to choose peace. Morgan is a preacher’s kid. She is a mom. She is a wife. A songwriter. A designer. And an author. In her most recent book, Peace is a Practice, Morgan discusses the journey from passively wanting peace to actively pursuing peace. Morgan grew up surrounded by wisdom. She still has a great support network today. However, despite having the right influences, the path to discovering how to operate in peace was not easy. But she found her way. And now, her heart is to help other women do the same. She desires for other women to realize they can have a peace that surpasses all understanding if they are willing to do the work to achieve it.

We all desire peace. And we assume our peace is based on our ability to control the things around us. If we can keep our homes clean. If we can have perfect children. Have a picture perfect marriage. Make the healthiest meals. And manage our lives with a calendar that tracks everything we do and everything we need to do. Then, we will have peace. Yet, what about when we live in the real world, where these things are rarely true? Peace is not a result of our circumstances; however, how we handle our circumstances is a result of our ability to obtain peace.


I pray this conversation will encourage you as you pursue your own personal peace. My hope is you will know you are not alone in the journey. And as you listen to my conversation with Morgan, I pray you will feel reassured that peace can be yours. Morgan says in her book, “You don’t have to arrive at your picture-perfect life before you can know peace.” Let that sink in for a minute. Peace is available for you even in the midst of your chaos. Peace can and should be yours.
