When was the last time you allowed yourself to dream? In the middle of life’s demands, is it hard for you to hold on to the desires of your heart? If you’re tired of allowing life to derail you from your dreams, then hold on, my friend, I’ve got some encouragement for you.

Maybe you’ve let go of a dream or a goal because:

  • You no longer have the finances necessary to accomplish it
  • You are dealing with unexpected circumstances that have taken you off course
  • You lack supportive relationships to help keep your spark alive

Before long, your dreams may fade from your memory, causing you to no longer recognize the girl in you who used to believe she could do it all.

I know how important it is to have someone on the outside looking in to cheer you on and remind you that you are still that girl with dreams. She’s still there. Even if many years have passed, I’m telling you that honoring your dreams is not just good for you, it’s good for your people, your community, and the world. Yes, the world.

When you partner with God, there is no limit to the mark you can make.

Delay does not mean denial

When you’re forced to press pause on your dreams, it’s easy to feel defeated, especially when you’ve given your all to something. But sometimes, no matter how hard you push, it’s just not the time for you to realize the dream yet. Most times, God is developing you in the process. I know you don’t want to hear that, but there’s no shortcut to getting God’s results in your life. Those moments when I couldn’t see God’s plans for my life, I was reminded that God is faithful to finish what He started in me. (Philippians 1:6) And the same is true for you, too.

God’s strength will carry you

Once you decide to rediscover the dreams you once had, you may feel the need to take matters into your own hands. You might feel pressure to complete your degree within a certain time frame, but feel stuck after being told you have one more semester left. And based on what you can see, it may feel like it will never happen for you, but you can’t carry that pressure on your own. Lean into your relationship with God and trust that the disappointment you’re feeling now is only temporary. Seek His guidance to discern what you should continue to press for, what you should press pause on, and what is no longer meant for you to pursue.

Hold on to your why

There are times when I’ve had to remind myself of the reason I started working towards a dream. Whether navigating parenting, ministry, or even business, I’ve had to keep the end goal at the forefront of my mind over the years. When you’re busy living life, it’s natural to grow weary in well-doing. Your dreams and the desires of your heart may feel like a hopeless cause. However, if you hold onto the woman you’re striving to become, the family you want to nurture, and the things you want to achieve, you’ll be willing to do the work even when your heart is full of worry.

So let this be the gentle push you need to get back to the dream that has faded into the distance. The thing that keeps you up at night, it’s on your heart for a reason.

It’s time to rediscover the dreamer in you.
