Podcast: Play in new window
Just for a second, I want you to think of the most confident woman you know. How does she walk into a room? What words does she speak over herself and others? How does she respond in difficult moments? Well, here’s the thing: the same confidence you see in her lives inside of you.
There is this myth that every confident woman is naturally fearless all the time, but that’s simply not true. In fact, being confident often requires an intentional choice to stand in the face of fear and do the thing anyway.
And let me tell you, the enemy would like nothing more than to keep you stuck in an endless loop of insecurity and self-doubt. At the same time, you have to understand that God has placed a purpose in you that the world needs.
But you’ll never realize your God-given purpose if you continue to hide who you are.
You deserve to walk into every room with your head held high. Here are some truths about confidence that will transform your mind and, in turn, your life.
Truth #1: Confidence can be built over time
Confident women often appear to be superhuman. On the outside looking in, it’s easy to assume that their level of self-assurance is far out of reach. However, I’m here to debunk that myth because it’s the mindset that keeps many women stuck where they are. You can build confidence by learning to trust in your follow-through. It’s all about keeping your word to yourself and showing up again and again.
Truth #2: Confidence does not require courage
I’m often surrounded by women who appear to be very confident. Most people aren’t privy to their challenging moments. The difference is that these women choose to acknowledge the fear and have the courage to show up anyway.
And that’s exactly how you build confidence. You keep practicing small acts of courage, even when it’s hard.
Practicing small acts of courage looks like:
- Showing up to the event, even if you have to go by yourself
- Speaking up during tense moments, even when your voice shakes
- Celebrating the things you love about yourself, even when you feel unworthy
There will never be a perfect time to exercise confidence. You have to build the strength to believe in yourself one moment at a time.
Truth #3: Confidence is found in community
Operating out of insecurity can be very isolating. That’s why it’s so important to get around other women who can reinforce God’s thoughts about you. I’m talking about communities of women like the Inner Circle who will cheer for you from the rafters. The process of learning to love is made easier when you are supported by people who are committed to calling out the best in you. Find other women of faith to align yourself with. As I always say, we are better together.
Confidence may not come overnight, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen for you. Keep showing up and know that God is with you every step of the way.
When it gets hard, hold on to this Scripture in Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
You weren’t meant to live below the surface. Here’s to planting seeds of courage as you grow in confidence.
