What are you dreaming about that you can’t afford? What are you desiring that is simply unattainable at the moment?

Dreams matter. Desires matter. What you picture when you imagine your future matters. If you are like me, you probably feel at times that you were designed for more. Here’s why we feel this way. We have a longing for more but the “more” requires resources – resources we don’t have!

There isn’t anything wrong with desiring more but often the “more” we desire takes time and we live a lot of our life waiting for the “more” to come. So what do we do in the wait?  In this episode I discuss

  • The importance of writing your dreams down
  • Making small deposits
  • Doing what you can with what you have

When you acknowledge and write down your desires, they become tangible. They are no longer faraway longings but real life goals. Articulating your hopes helps you remember, focus, and stay grateful. Whether your dreams are small or big, the boldness required to simply write them down can be daunting. Sharing them with a friend can be even scarier! But the reward of documenting your desires has the potential to alter your entire future.

While you wait, you must make small deposits investing in those desires. Small deposits are made of the extra money, time, preparation or attention you can give. Regardless of your investment being  50 cents or 100 dollars, you do have extra. Need proof? Those clothes sitting in the back, dark corner of your closet. Those dusty appliances in your garage. That loose change in the side of your car door. Those are all EXTRA!

Extra is a mentality. It is not a number, and you must create a habit of going above and beyond in preparation for the next level of your life. It matters where you invest your time, talents, and resources. If you aren’t intentional your extra will go somewhere, even if that somewhere aren’t the desires you say are important to you.

When your dream arrives, you want to ensure that you are ready. Do not underestimate the power of a little. However, I must warn you, this requires discipline. It requires you to fight impulsivity. It requires you to say no to buying that thing and instead make a deposit in the direction of your dream. Don’t be overwhelmed. This path of preparation is doable. The journey required for the life you dream of is possible! You simply move forward with small steps.

You just have to start somewhere.

Just remember, you are always practicing who you want to be in preparation for what is to come. There is always an opportunity right in front of you. When you notice your chance to be who you are supposed to be in this world, choose to do what you can with what you have. Create the memories now. Call the friend now. Save extra now. Take the class now. Learn the language now. Develop the skill now.

Your dreams should not be measured by the distance you are from them today, but by the discipline you are willing to exercise so you are ready for the dreams when they  arrive.

Your dreams truly do matter.

May your dreams come true and meet you ready and well-prepared.
