Podcast: Play in new window
Do you ever find yourself hindered by the limitations of life? What if I told you that you were made to live without limits?? All too often the limits we experience in life we put on ourselves! Many of these limits are lies. We simply believe them due to our current circumstances and past experiences. I want to encourage you today to move beyond your self-imposed limits! Don’t stay boxed in by the expectations of others, your experiences, or lack of exposure to a different way of life. You were born with the ability to learn, grow, stretch yourself, and discover. You have everything you need inside of you to fulfill the call of God on your life. That’s not to say that you won’t have to learn, grow or utilize resources, but it does mean you CAN find the answers you need to move forward.
While there are lots of reasons people get stuck in life, I have found three reasons that often keep people from pushing past their limits –lack of information, discipline, and guidance/support. These things don’t have to limit YOU. There is an abundance of resources available to help you push past each of these barriers.
You can learn. If you lack information, scour the internet! Read the book. Sign up for the class. Ask the questions. Sign up for the membership. You’re only limited by your belief that you can’t know what you don’t know, but you can learn! One way I have found to learn in an area of interest is reading the books on the reading list for a class I would love to take. Simply look up the syllabus for the course and see what the professor is requiring the class to read. Then read the books! Pushing past your limits will require your effort. It might not always be easy but you CAN do it!
You can be consistent. If you find yourself lacking the discipline to shift the boundaries, then do what you have to do to find accountability so you can consistently show up for your goals, plans, and dreams. This goes hand in hand with lacking support and/or guidance. Having a good support system in place is critical for pushing past your limits. Discipline is not about who you are, but about what you choose to do consistently. If you need help being consistent, find some friends, search for a trainer, or get a coach! Invest in your long term goals so you can be the person you need to be. Stop waiting for the “right” time to start or for the motivation to kick in… comfort is the enemy of your progress here. Catch hold of the end goal, set up the accountability you need, and get moving. You can do it!
You can change. Ever heard of neuroplasticity? In 2015, Dr. Lara Boyd gave a TED talk on the neuroplasticity of the brain and the power you have to restructure the pathways of your thoughts. Her talk and the wealth of other resources that support her teaching, bring a whole new light to Romans 12:2 about not being conformed to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Again, you hold the power to choose. Will you choose to push past your limits and believe in the power of God that is available to you?
You were not just put on this earth to live a humdrum life and barely scrape through, but God has placed you here for a purpose! He wants to partner with you to release His kingdom here on earth and that involves His boundless provision (Ephesians 3:20). The dreams He has for you are vast and beyond measure and you only need to say yes to Him to experience this abundant life (John 10:10). When you align yourself with His plan and purposes, there is no telling the wonder that lies ahead for you.
So what has God placed in your heart to do? What is that thing that cries out from the depth of your soul but you have told yourself it’s not possible?
Say it outloud.
That’s right, I’ll wait.
Go ahead and put a voice to that longing.
Do you long to teach, start your own business, serve in ministry, or fight for the freedom of an underserved community? The dreams themselves are limitless because of the unique and divine design with which God created us. Say yes to your dream today. Say yes to God. Say yes to following His plan for your life. It’s a beautiful life to be lived!
