Sally Clarkson has loved Jesus with her life.  She has poured His love into her family and has made it her life’s work to encourage, to teach, and to disciple other women to do the same.  She is the author of over 24 books and has at least one book with each of her four children and her husband. Not only does Sally spur women on to show up for their family, but she also implores them to take ownership of what God has called them to do.

On owning your place in God’s megastory…

In her quest to see the organic, living Christ in others, Sally became involved in a group while at college and discovered for herself that Jesus was wise.  He was relational.  He was bigger than life.  He was humble.  He was surprising.  She then realized that she had both the capacity and agency through the Holy Spirit to be used by God and she wanted others to know that they, too, have a place in God’s megastory.

But how do you own your place in God’s megastory?

Well first, you must get your perceptions right because how you see your life determines how you live your life.  Sally reminds us that we can be used in our corner of the world – wherever that is – noting that we don’t have to be amazing. We just have to know we have an amazing God.  Additionally, Sally encourages us to plug into godly and wise that will encourage us, speak life into us, and will inspire us to be our best selves.  She implores us to keep growing in our knowledge of Truth in a world that doesn’t offer truth and to seek out our own spiritual encouragement.  Her final suggestion for us in owning our place in God’s megastory goes back to the second greatest commandment – to love our people and others well.

On motherhood…

You know I can’t do an interview with Sally Clarkson and not ask for some pointers on motherhood.  Sally reminds us mommas to not get too overwhelmed by the world’s pressures and instead make sure that our kids know they are secure and loved.  Let them know their life matters.  Narrate forward into their lives reminding them of who they are just as they are so that they have a strong sense of self.  Speak giving words of affirmation and Scripture to your children.  Additionally, recognize these three things in regards to your words:

  • That your words to your children create a vision and develops a destiny.
  • Hateful words last a lifetime.  Guard yourself from being critical of people.
  • Guilt is a poison.  Don’t pass it on.

Mommas, God doesn’t want us to be perfect.  He just wants us to be growing.  So take the pressure off.
