Podcast: Play in new window
How do you know when it’s time for you to change seasons? If there is anything that is constant in life, it’s change. The good news is, when life seasons do change, you can sense them coming and move through into them gracefully.
Whenever seasons change, there are shifts in the atmosphere. The physical seasons in this world are a good example of this. When winter moves into spring, you see the flowers bloom. Spring’s shift into summer is characterized by the rising temperature. I should know. I live in Texas, y’all, and it is hot as Hades here right now! Autumn comes around and we are met by leaves falling from the limbs of the trees. Winter’s frigid air nips at us, letting us know it’s time to bundle up. In the same way, we can sense cues from our environment when there is a transition in the seasons. We can know when it is time for us to shift gears in our lives.
I have experienced many seasons over the course of my life. I have gone from a single mother to a married woman. I made the change from successfully moving up the corporate ladder to being a stay-at-home/homeschooling mama. Here recently, I have transitioned out of my forties and into my fifties and I have learned that things are always changing and, “resistance is futile.” But yet many of us do resist! What if refusing to make adjustment for shifting seasons isn’t good for you?
What good would it do me to walk around in the dead of winter with shorts on? I’d be miserable! If I chose to wear a thick coat during the heat of summer, I’d overheat. One of the best things you can do in your life is know when the seasons are shifting and then gracefully make the needed changes to be well prepared. Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is a time for everything. The problem is that we can become so comfortable in one season that we forget to embrace the transitions life brings our way.
What can you do when you find yourself struggling to accept the changes life brings your way? One thing I know is that if you fight the transition, you won’t have an easy segue into the new season. So, today, I want to encourage you as you navigate the ever-present changes that will come your way. In this chat I want to give you some practical help for navigating new seasons. Join me as we talk about how to focus through the transition, redesign your life when needed, and embrace the next season of your life.
