Podcast: Play in new window
If you’ve been listening to me for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard me mention personality assessments like Myers Briggs, StrengthsFinder, Spiritual Gifts, DISC and Enneagram. Listen y’all, I’ve taken my fair share of personality tests, and I have to tell you, the Enneagram is the one that made me feel most uncomfortable. Why? Well, it forced me to have some really deep conversations with myself. It didn’t just make me think about how I behave but about why I behave in particular ways. It pushed me to re-examine my core motivations, gave insight into the ways people interpret the world, and helped me have more grace and compassion in relationships.
Today, I am chatting with Beth McCord, author, Enneagram expert and founder of Your Enneagram Coach. Beth and her husband, Jeff have spent years learning about the Enneagram and how to use it from a Christ-centered perspective. Their goal is to use the results of the assessment to help individuals break free from self-condemnation, fear and shame by knowing and experiencing the unconditional love, forgiveness and freedom in Christ. In this episode, we examine the origins of the Enneagram and its usefulness as a tool for believers. We also explore how to gracefully utilize the Enneagram for yourself, lovingly engage with others, and honestly determine if our heart is aligned or misaligned with the truth of The Gospel.
I turn 50 tomorrow and what I have come to learn is that getting to know yourself is a process and a journey that happens over time. No matter your age, wiring or situation, it’s never too late to do the work of getting to know you. Remember, you are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for you to do (Eph. 2:10). When we do the work and take action based on what we discover, we can have a life full of abundance. As you tune in, I pray that you are reminded of the gift of getting to know you and that you are committed to discovering who God created you to be.
