My friend Kasey Van Norman knows all about walking through hard things. I’m giving you multiple doses of Kasey this month! Her story is captivating. We are digging in deep on this episode of The Sister Circle. We didn’t play it safe either. I asked her the hard questions and Kasey was raw and honest with me.Abuse. Daddy issues. Insecurity. Infidelity.

I watched the coffee episode with Kasey, listened and watch the podcast. Still working on reading your book honestly. I hear the”tell your story” and I agree in principle, but I am so reluctant to do it. I feel judgement is coming and I also have worked so hard these last years to get over the trauma and drama of those areas of my life. I have tried to put it in a box on a shelf and hide it away. I have had my share of counseling and tried to work through the issues. Forgive, yes. Want to keep thinking about it? No.
Being a divorced woman in the Christian world has me carrying a load of shame in addition to all the shame I carried before. Sharing in the church or other christians has rarely turned out well.
But I hear you and Kasey’s story about God using all of your story. Aside from an a close friend or a counselor, telling my story doesn’t seem all that safe or would be helpful for the women in my particular circle. But I hear you saying it may be good for my own emotional and spiritual health and growth. I just need encouragement to at least look at it.
Kasey’s story was awesome and I am starting her book today. She is doing great at sharing. However, I saw another interview with her sharing her story and you could see the judgment of the interviewer all over his face. Then he seemed to minimize her and just praised her husband. It was not an encouragement to me to share and confirmed why it is hard to share in Christian circles.
All that said, thank you for encouraging us to show up for our life and to be real at some level.
I pray for your family and thankful for the ministry you have to share with the world.
I understand exactly what you are saying. I think if you have shared your story with your counselor and with a close friend… that’s enough. At any point that you decide someone else need else needs to hear it or be helped by it, you can make that decision at that time. I admire your bravery.
After this episode especially, neither Oprah nor Barbara Walters has anything on your interviewing abilities and questions! Speaking of Oprah, I applaud your reminder to listeners on how you can learn truth from anyone, including Oprah. That was important to clarify and defend. When Instagram readers were giving Priscilla a hard time about attending the Dallas Oprah Event, I too thought of the saying, “Take the meat; leave the bones.” Ironically, it looked like Oprah was wearing Converse high-tops at her Los Angeles WW Event when she was interviewing Jennifer Lopez. Your influence keeps growing. ?
