#155 – Real Talk about Relationships: Living Single

#155 – Real Talk about Relationships: Living Single

Do you have people in your life that are constantly asking “why are you still single?” Are you about one fake nod and smile away from replying “because God isn’t in the business of delivering good men via Amazon Prime”? If so, this single-ladies’ chat with a few of my friends is for you!

You might be a single woman trying to understand how to live your life to the fullest. Or maybe you are struggling with your single status and wondering if or when your husband will show up.  Whether you are content or simply curious about how long you will be in the single season, this episode will encourage and inspire you to celebrate exactly who you are right now.

My “in-real-life” friends, Emerald, Vonnetta, Dee, and Danielle stopped by to have an honest and laugh-worthy dialogue about what single life is really about.  I asked for honesty, and they delivered.  These women shared their joys, fears, lessons learned, and tips for living a full life “before the ring.”

Join me along with four dynamic women as we have a hilariously transparent heart-to-heart and engage in “real-talk” about being unmarried. All too often surface-level conversations surround this very real topic. Whether you’re happily single or hoping to make it down the aisle on day, these women offer a refreshing take on being saved and single.

Take some time to listen as we move past “patiently waiting on Boaz” and get honest about celibacy, desires, boundaries, and wanting a fine man…who loves the Lord, of course.

Highlights from Today’s Episode:

  • Boundaries in dating
  • Real talk about celibacy
  • How to be single and fulfilled
  • Being over 30 and unmarried
  • Relational contentment

  1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your contentment in singleness? 1 being “my husband needs to show up tomorrow” and 10 being “I could be happy and unmarried forever.” Why?
  2. What are you doing to “maximize your today”?
  3. What are three things you desire in a mate? Why?
  4. What are three things that would make you a better mate? Why?
  5. How do you/can you prioritize the Lord now?

    I have been single for 10 years and I’m 46..I think I’m a 9, a lot of it is contentment and me realizing that I don’t have to be married just to be married, if that makes sense…i don’t have children either, and I witness so many of my friends going through, I have found my identity in Christ and it’s important that the man knows who he is in Christ…Still searching for my purpose but closer than I was….

    1. When it comes to singleness, I have finally learned how to be content in the last 4 years. I’m enjoying my freedom and because my life has truly been crazy over the last 4 years I have truly found rest in “Thy Will be Done”, so I’ll say I’m a 9.
    2. It’s been a rough season, so I will say I am doing my best to maximize my today by doing what I believe the LORD is directing me to do today even if that’s lying on my face in prayer.
    3. Long ago I prayed for a man like David, but I didn’t even know exactly all that meant. A man with a big heart because I have 4 lovely children. Patience because blending our family will take time and work. Honest because I have dealt with a lot of deceit.
    4. Taking better care of me so I can pour into someone else. Continuing to grow more secure in Christ. Allowing someone to truly love me and help me carry all that I’m carrying.
    5. Acknowledgement of His presence with me throughout the day with every step I take, waking up to pray and commune with Him.

    Chrystal thank you so much for this talk. I am 37yrs and never married single, no kids, i live alone. Well as a born again woman i cant deny the truth that i have a desire to get married, actually i really thought i would have been married by now but life seem to have missed my memo, so still single.

    My scale is so jumpy i cant really say where i am because one minute i am glad I’m still single but the next minute i wish i have someone to call and ask him to go a pick few things to cook for dinner, so i am all over the place for now. However, mostly i thank God that i am still single because if i was to get married in my 20s i dont know if i would have made it, the wisdom i have now is different, i have grown a lot.

    My three taste of a man to marry are;
    1. Tall
    2. Caucasian
    3. Kind

    And i will be to him;
    1. Tall
    2. African Black
    3. Giving

      Thanks for sharing and being honest about where you are in regards to marriage and what you want! Praying that God answers the desires of your heart.

    Hi Chrsytal! Thank you (and your awesome sister firends) for sharing your thoughts and hearts on this! It feels good to know there is a community of sisters out there enjoying the season they’re in and overcoming outside distractions. So I have been single for about 21 years (insert monkey “see no evil” emoji here). It hase been a journey (lots of kicking and screaming) however I am happy and proud to say that I am like a 9.4 in this single season. It’s actaully pretty amazing everything God is showing and teaching me now that I have decided to get over myself (insert more monkey emoji’s and embarassmed face:-). Although, I absoultely look forward to my single season changing, I have made peace with knowing that should my singleness last till I go home to be with Jesus, I will continueto be content and dertermined to live the full, healthy, whole life God designed for me with no regrets just pure joy (sorry didnt mean to get deep..lol) Thank you so much for this podcast, your book “She’s Still There” (that haunts me…in a good way), and for always being so open and transparent. Thank you!
