I have been a mother just about as long as I’ve been an adult.

Of all the jobs I’ve had and all the things I’ve done, motherhood has been the role I’ve held the longest.

As I look back over the last 20″ish” years I’ve been parenting, I don’t just see the growth and development of my children.  I see the growth and development in me.

While I know that motherhood is valuable and an important role both within my family and within society, it so easy to lose sight of the forest as you make your way through the trees.

Today’s podcast will help you rise above the foliage and take a bird’s eye view of the wonderful things that can happen to you and in you as you allow your parenting journey to make you a better person.

Because it can.

It can be overwhelming to think of the importance of our responsibility to pour into the lives of another person for a lifetime.

You might be overwhelmed with the weight of that task.  You might even feel like you can barely make it through each day much less the next few years.

The fear of failing your children or even yourself may loom before you as you face another day of changing diapers, helping with homework, lending a listening ear, fixing another meal, taking another temperature, or spending another dime.

You might see the possibilities for your life – your achievement, accomplishment, or even accolades fading right before your very eyes as you focus on the job of raising your children. Let me invite you to table those possibilities for a bit so they don’t overshadow the beauty and potential of what is currently on your plate.

Your role as a parent doesn’t just hold promise for what your children can become.  It also holds promise for who you will become as you are refined through the process of pouring your time, talents, and treasure into the people who call you “mom”.

Possibilities can be a good thing. But don’t let “possibilities” overshadow what is presently on your plate.
