Podcast: Play in new window
When was the last time you felt the presence of God? I’m talking about “a calm in the middle of the storm” kind of peace that just rushes over you. The kind of peace that you shouldn’t have based on your circumstances, yet somehow it covers you completely.
What if I told you that this peace is available to you at all times? Whether you’re meeting God in your prayer closet or communing with Him as you walk through nature, He is always there. If you long to feel a deeper connection with the Father, I want you to know that He’s simply waiting on you.
But it won’t happen without your intention and commitment to drawing near to God one moment at a time.
In this episode, I get real about the distractions and demands that threaten to pull us away from intimacy with Him. Between doomscrolling on social media, decluttering our homes, and desperately needing rest, it’s no wonder we lack clarity and quiet. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
So how do you make the most of the time you have? You invite God into every nook and cranny you can find. It truly is a practice that you have to commit yourself to every single day.
Replace distraction with delight
To make room for peace and clarity, you must first release the distractions in your life. I know this isn’t always possible, as some distractions come at the hands of loved ones, jobs, and even things you enjoy. However, you can make changes. You can trim the time you spend on your phone and listen to the Bible app instead. You could turn off the music while walking outside to hear what God has to say. It will take time to reach the level of connection you want, but as you practice being present and getting in His presence, you will get there.
Be open to the ordinary
The power of God’s presence can often be found in the mundane moments that are so easily taken for granted. And while sometimes it’s tempting to wait for Sunday morning to feel His presence, a true relationship is built little by little, every day of your life. It’s a matter of taking the limits off of what God can do.
Allow God to speak to you:
- In your kitchen as you listen to worship music while washing the dishes
- In your car as you give Him praise on the way to work
- In your laundry room as you recite Scriptures while folding clothes
These are just a few examples of how God can meet you anywhere at any time. You only need to be intentional about including Him in it all.
Find your footing with worship and the Word
As the seasons in your life change, you will sometimes feel like a ship on the ocean tossed to and fro in a storm. It’s hard not to become overwhelmed with the instability each season can bring. That’s why staying anchored in God’s Word and worship is so essential to your well-being as a woman. Here are a few Scriptures that can help keep you tethered to God when it gets hard to hold on:
- James 4:8 – “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
- Psalm 145:18 – “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
- Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Keep God’s words in front of you. Write the Word on index cards and keep them within reach. Set reminders on your phone to pray. And by all means, play your favorite worship playlist to help you stay engaged with God’s presence throughout the day.
One of my favorite songs is “Make Room” by Jonathan McReynolds. In the song, he eloquently says:
“I find space for what I treasure
I make time for want
I choose my priorities and
Jesus you’re my number one
So I will make room for you”
Let this be your encouragement to make room for God’s presence in every facet of your life. You have everything you need. Just let Him meet you right where you are.
