The journey to realizing a dream can often be a lonely one. Oftentimes, God only gives the vision for the dream to the person who is supposed to see it through.

How do you find the courage to pursue a dream when no one else understands what you have been called to do? You rely on the one who gave you the dream in the first place.

Comedian and author, Yvonne Orji, stopped by the Circle to discuss her book, Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me Into the Life of My Dreams. She was prompted by God to write the book in her own words and tell the story of how He exceeded any dream she could have hoped for herself. As she puts it, He “supersized” her dreams to the extent that she now has to dream even bigger dreams.

Not surprisingly, my conversation with Yvonne was full of laughter and insightful moments. Her lighthearted approach to life allows her to reflect on the difficult times from her past with a clear perspective. Even now, Yvonne’s natural ability to bring others joy has allowed her to be a light in an industry that can be consumed with darkness.

As a reformed people pleaser, Yvonne had to learn to trust God’s voice in her life above anyone else’s voice. She decided to trust His plan for her life, even when it did not align with the expectations of her Nigerian upbringing.

She soon found that God’s voice was the one that she could always rely on. Her decision to give God her yes has placed her on stages and in spaces she could never have imagined.

Everything shifts when you decide to focus on pleasing God rather than pleasing people.

Stepping into uncharted territory can be frightening. When you are the first to do something, you may be faced with obstacles that try to deter you from your path to success. It is in those moments that you have no other choice but to put your trust in Jesus.

My friend, know that you are worthy of dreaming big dreams. Keep dreaming even when those dreams fall outside of what other people think you should be doing. The dream was planted in your heart for a reason.

You were created with a purpose. There may be other people that can do what you do, but no one else can do it like you. No matter how big your dream is, you can use your unique gifts and resources to carry it out.

When you take time to reflect on God’s goodness, it becomes clear that He was orchestrating your story all along. And do you want to know the best part? He is just getting started.

Here’s the thing, you have to give God something to work with. Your gifts and abilities were placed in you to do something great in your own way.

What would happen if you took the limits off of what you can see right now? Do your part and then allow God to do what only He can… “exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20)

Give yourself the freedom to move in the direction of your dreams.

And then when you accomplish your dreams – dream, dream again.
