Podcast: Play in new window
Leadership, at its core, involves people.
At the heart of being a good leader is learning how to navigate relationships well. It’s knowing how to be in relationship with those you lead, those who are leading you, authentic relationship with yourself and most importantly with God. It’s living and thriving in the uncertain spaces and encouraging those around you to do the same. And most importantly, it’s learning to care about the things and people God has entrusted to you.
Too often we see limitations in people and circumstances as a reason to jump ship and try something new. The answer we seek is not always clear. The process may be frustrating. And we struggle to see a solution anywhere. However, as the leader you set the tone for your entire team. If they see your disbelief and doubt that will cause them to simply plant seeds of their own.
My guest for this podcast believes you can lead others well when you learn to walk with them, trust the process and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance on a person by person basis. DawnCheré Wilkerson is a mom, pastor, song-writer and speaker. She currently co-pastors Vous Church in Miami with her husband Rich and she is passionate about helping people joyfully step into what God has for them.
Join DawnCheré and me as we talk about how God has shown her how to lead others well by:
- Respecting where God is calling people
- Having uplifting, challenging conversations
- Believing in how much people can grow
You will be called into situations you don’t know how to handle. Individuals on your team at work or at church will come and go. Yet, growth only happens through stretching. You must embrace the stretch, embrace the change and embrace the unknown. God is faithful. Lean in to all He is trying to do in your life and in the lives of those around you.
Most importantly, speak life into the individuals he places in your care. Don’t let hurt and frustration corrode your heart or your mouth. We are the fruit of our lips. Just as our words can tear someone down, they can also build them up. Take the time to shape, love and nurture the ones you lead. And when the time comes for those people to move on to something new, release them, knowing God will provide exactly what you need.
Life is long.
Are you ready to lead and be led well?
