Podcast: Play in new window
Y’all, what are we going to do about Imposter Syndrome? It’s a real phenomenon that can keep you from living out your purpose and experiencing God’s best for your life. Because imposter syndrome is such an important issue that is impacting so many people I know, I’m talking about this topic two weeks in a row.
Last week in part one, I explained what it is and why it’s so important for you to recognize when Imposter Syndrome shows up. If you haven’t had a chance to digest part one, you can watch the video version of the podcast, HERE or listen to the audio version of the episode HERE. This week I want to talk about how we can tactically fight back against the voice of imposter syndrome that we hear in our heads and show up well for our lives.
Listen! You do not have to pay attention to limiting beliefs or give Imposter Syndrome a platform in your life. You can overcome your doubts and fears. You can believe in who you are already becoming!
Speak Up
Imposter Syndrome constantly competes for attention and seeks to convince you of who you ARE NOT. However, when you speak up about what you ARE capable of or are already doing , you defeat and silence the lies. You can decide what you truly believe and speak THAT truth over yourself so you don’t operate in insecurity and hesitation. . If you feel weak and unable to speak truth to yourself, surround yourself with others who are strong and can affirm the gifts, talents, and strengths inside of you. Find those mentors, friends, spiritual leaders, etc. who can call you up into God’s truth about you. Stop denying yourself the gift of encouragement and learn to receive the truth from your trusted circle of friends.
Show Up
Show up for your gifts and talents. Assess what you are good at, what sets your soul on fire, what you are passionate about and show up in those spaces! Competence is what builds your confidence, so the more you show up the greater your confidence will be! This is where you can sign up for that class, get that degree/certification, apprentice or intern in your area of interest. Whatever that next step is to help you grow, show up there and believe in yourself!
Say Grace Over Yourself
Give yourself grace! No one is perfect, my friend. As you step out with hope and faith to learn and grow, you will stumble and make mistakes, but that is ok! You are human and you are brave for moving out of your comfort zone and being intentional about the desires in your heart. When a baby is learning how to walk, we don’t get upset when they stumble after the first few steps. We cheer them on and audibly share encouragement because we know they will soon be running! You too will be running someday in the space God has for you, so extend audible grace to yourself even while you build your competence.
See Your Spectacular
It’s so easy to see the spectacular in those around you, but until you learn to see the spectacular in YOU, you won’t be able to move forward. Learn to rehearse what makes you great and what makes you special. It’s GOOD to have a healthy confidence! You are fearfully and wonderfully made by the creator of the universe! And He does not create anything subpar. Next time you are tempted to compare yourself, ask this question – What does God see when He looks at me? I can assure you that He sees wonder and beauty! He sees someone amazing who He takes great delight in! You have great value and are worth the rescue!
Occupy Your Space
Now that you have done the work of speaking the truth, showing up to build your competence, extending grace to yourself, and seeing the gift of you, you get to OCCUPY the space! In part one of this series I talked about how often we are already doing the thing we believe we can’t do. But go ahead and do it anyway! Write that book, speak in front of a crowd, lead the meeting, have the hard conversations anyway. Imposter Syndrome tells you a certain space doesn’t belong to you, but when you decide to do the work, you can also decide to walk into any room and own who you already are. Walk in your God given identity as someone who is blessed, chosen, accepted, forgiven, and has everything you need!
So how does this all fit together? The first step is recognizing that the negativity you hear is a voice – only a voice – that’s holding you back. Then you have the choice to fight back and take ownership of your life. The five steps I’ve shared today are tools for the battle and weapons for warfare. You are worth the fight for your life! You are a gift and the world needs to experience gifts and talents you have to offer. Here’s to showing up and honoring the gift of you in this world.

Amen!! Great information and encouragement
Am writing my first Bible study to publish and feeling intimidated by all everyone else knows. Thanks for reminding me it’s ok to learn as I go.
Ms. Crystal thank U, thank U, thank U for Ur encouragement. I don’t know if u remember when U chose my comment on the live show but I spoke of wanting to start my Non-Profit Ministry of feeding the homeless.
Well since then I’ve taken my 1st steps in starting it. I applied for my EIN# and got approved. And I reach out to person whom gives the classes to obtain Ur license to be a food handler and God showed me favor. The man stated he knew what it was to be homeless and offered me the class for FREE which is a $145 class. He said he would love to bless me in starting my Ministry and one day come to help serve. I am truly grateful for Ur ENCOURAGEMENT. Plz keep me and my ministry in prayer. One day I will seek u out to invite U and ur family to a meal. God bless you Ms. Chystal.
