Podcast: Play in new window
How do you keep the faith when it seems God is silent? If you’ve been searching for His voice in the chaos of life, then my friend, you might be closer to Him than you think.
I know, it certainly doesn’t feel that way when you are suffering. But it’s important to realize that you’re not alone. Every Christian has had a season of feeling distant from God at some point.
But take heart, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In this episode of The Sister Circle Podcast, I share practical steps for holding on to God when it feels like He’s let go of you.
Trust beyond your feelings
Your feelings will lead you to believe that your situation is hopeless. I know what that feels like. There have been times in my life when my feelings and the facts didn’t quite add up.
Maybe you’ve experienced some of these silent seasons:
- Your bills are due, but you can’t land a job despite your best efforts
- You’ve tried counseling, but still find yourself arguing with your spouse
- Your friendships seem to be falling apart left and right
- You’ve attended more bridal and baby showers than you can count and wonder when it will finally be your turn
- Your prayers for loved ones seem to fall on deaf ears
If any of these hit home for you, know that your feelings are valid. But don’t allow your feelings to keep you stuck in a cycle of doubt and despair.
Keep going no matter what
Whether it’s the loss of someone or something, I want to encourage you to trust in God when it seems all hope is gone. And I mean do whatever you need to do to remind yourself of His goodness, even in the midst of your suffering.
- Read your Bible (the YouVersion app is a great alternative)
- Get connected to community, like my Inner Circle
- Continue to live your life and thrive, even in the dry seasons
- Create a playlist to maintain a posture of praise and worship
Resist the urge to drift away from God. Instead, I encourage you to use this time to build an intimacy with Him that will carry you through any other storm that comes your way.
Learn to lean on God
When life feels unbearable, you can try everything in your power to move mountains on your own. But that rarely ends well. What if God is waiting on you to let your guard down and fall into His arms? I’m talking about a true surrender. Rest in who He has been to you in the past and let go of what you can’t control.
Be prepared for things to work out in a way that looks different from what you expected.
As Scripture says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
No matter what your circumstances look like, God is going to get the glory out of it. When you get to the other side of surrender, you’ll be able to say without a doubt that it was the Lord who brought you out of that dark valley. After all, without a test, there is no testimony.
Keep pursuing God in the midst of your waiting. Here’s to a greater dependence on the One who loves you most.
