What happens when you discover your identity in God? When you allow Him to define who you are, don’t be surprised when you become completely unrecognizable, even to yourself. And it’s worth it. God’s plan for your life is far better than anything you could ever dream for yourself. There’s so much power in letting God take the lead in your life.

That’s what Jade Godbolt experienced when she gave God total control over her platform. At the top of her game as a longtime beauty and lifestyle influencer, she made the radical decision to shift from presenting the perfect aesthetic to showing up as a wife, mother, and daughter after God’s own heart. When I came across her content on YouTube, I knew she was one of my people. And let me tell you, all the girl-next-door vibes you get from Jade on the screen shine through when you sit down for a girl chat with her.

 

But what I really connected with was Jade’s transparency about saying yes to God even when it costs something. Her testimony is one of discovering true identity in Christ, even when the world is trying to keep you tied to who you used to be.

Maybe you’re the girl who searched for identity in:

  • Degrees and job titles
  • Likes and comments on social media
  • Approval from family and friends

And while striving for recognition isn’t inherently bad, placing the approval of everyone else over God’s approval is a setup for failure. You’ll find yourself exhausted and unfulfilled trying to be the person that everyone else wants you to be.

Having the courage to release these things is no small feat. You will be met with criticism from those who don’t understand. You may even face your own criticism when self-doubt creeps in. But when you hold on to God’s promises for your life, you can find the strength to turn over the things holding you back over and over again.

That’s why change is a gradual process. It’s the letting go of one thing at a time. It’s taking notice when you fall back into old habits and making the decision to course correct. 

It may not seem like it right now, but the peace that comes with living God’s way is worth more than everything you’re fighting so hard to hold onto.

So this is me telling you to go against the grain. Even if you don’t have thousands of followers, I can guarantee you that your yes to God will not only free you, but everyone in your sphere of influence. And when God is guiding you, those who follow you will actually be following Christ. 

It comes down to being willing to set yourself apart from the world and allowing God to transform you from the inside out. (Romans 12:2) 

Through the transformation of her brand and ultimately her life, Jade uses her platform to share her faith with her followers. As a result, the peace that radiates from her during our conversation is a reminder of what happens when you know who you are and whose you are.

And that same peace is available to you. Just trust the process, one surrender at a time.
