What do people say about you when you’re not in the room, and more importantly, is it true?

That’s the heart of this conversation. Whether you’re confident in your personal brand or you don’t even know what that means, I want to help you live a life that’s on brand, not according to trends or social media aesthetics, but according to the truth of who God made you to be.

This is something I’ve had to learn for myself. Just because something’s true about me doesn’t mean that people know it. Why? Because I haven’t always been intentional about putting the real me on display.

This isn’t about trying to be perfect or performing. It’s about purpose. When I say “living on brand,” what I really mean is living a life of alignment, authenticity, and impact.

Every summer, I have to remind my kids of our “house rules”. Without the rhythm of the school year, things have a tendency to get a little crazy. So, in order for us to live life well as a family, we hit the reset button and remind everyone of how we operate.

In order for you to live your life intentionally and on brand, you need to have some “house rules” for your life. Let me share three “house rules” with you to consider. These will help you stay committed and focused on who you are, whose you are, and how you should move through your life as a result.

House Rules for Living an On-Brand Life:

House Rule #1: Your life should be in alignment with your calling.

Your calling doesn’t have to be complicated. Calling simply meant that you choose to get to know God and do what He says. That’s it. God already had a plan for you before you were born, but He invites you into it through prayer, His Word, and your obedience – one breadcrumb at a time. You can’t live intentionally if you’re not connected to the One who gave you breath.

House Rule #2: Your authenticity is the gateway to your influence.

This world is noisy, and it’s tempting to try to be who everyone else wants you to be. But God didn’t make a copy when He made you. Your quirks, your personality, your style – it’s all by design. When you own who you are in Him, that’s when the unique expression of you will start to show.

Just like each unique fruit grows from a unique tree, the fruit from your life will grow as you nurture your authentic self in the light of surrender to the Lord. Your authenticity will lead to your influence. And your influence doesn’t come from how many followers you have. It comes from how faithful you are with what He’s given you.

House Rule #3: Your mark is your ministry.

We all want to leave a mark. And guess what? You already are. The question is whether it’s intentional or accidental? Whether you’re raising kids, caring for grandkids, serving in your church, building a business, or showing up at your 9-to-5, you are ministering. You don’t need a mic. You don’t need a camera. You just need a heart to serve from the overflow of what God is doing in you.

Your life is your brand. Your light is not meant to be hidden, and your legacy is shaped by the everyday decisions you make to walk in obedience, authenticity, and purpose.

Some days your light may feel dim. Life hits hard. You’re tired. You question whether you’re making a difference. That’s why community matters. That’s why discipleship matters. When you can’t pray for yourself, someone else can. When you can’t see clearly, someone else can remind you of what’s true. We were never meant to generate all this light on our own. We were meant to reflect the light of Christ and be surrounded by others who help us keep shining when it’s hard.

Your personal brand is not about perfection. It’s about showing up with intentionality, being who God created you to be, and letting that authenticity influence the world around you. Let God use you, exactly where you are, exactly how He made you. And trust, your life will make a mark that matters.
