Conflicted. That is the word to describe how I feel about the best way to rip remove the fuzz off of my face.
But it’s all about the beauty.
If you are just now tuning in to my blog for “The Mustache Chronicles”, catch up by reading THIS POST to understand the problem I’m trying to solve; then read THIS POST for my initial inquiry into the options for removing the soft fuzzies that grow on my face.
And even after two blog posts dedicated to this silly subject, I still am not sure what I want to do.
I tend to be a perfectionist. I’m working on that.
But I’m still not there.
I still prefer to do as much homework as possible and make the “right” decision.
You guys have been great about helping me do my research. You have weighed in faithfully about your own hair removal techniques. I’ve read everything in the comments.
But, I have to say that the woman who shared how she uses Nair for her facial hair got me.
Doesn’t the bottle specifically forbid using it on the face?
But honestly it doesn’t matter.
I’m not sure that there is any “right” way to inflict discomfort, pain, or any sort of burning sensation on my facial skin.
This is ridiculous.
I know I’m making a mountain out of a molehill.
But I don’t care.
It’s my face.
As I have taken my foray into “The Mustache Chronicles” further, I have found that it’s not just about the mustache, it’s about the mustache, the eyebrows, the chin, and the beard.
This pic came from last week’s visit to the threading shop with my oldest daughter.
I was dumbfounded.
It’s all apparently a big deal.
So I’ve taken a few more days to talk to a few gals about their facial hair routine.
First interviewee? My sister.
)
She apparently decided not to hold back on her advice.
What is with people taking the conversation from facial hair and applying it to my legs?
I can only deal with one part of my body at a time.
My face is the topic of discussion right now.
We have officially migrated from mustache only to eyebrows as well.
But why not?
Well… Silla is clear. The razor works for her. But the razor is not the only way to handle the situation.
I have other friends that were willing to share their own take on how to deal with their “overgrowth”.
Here’s a great video where they plug their preferred method.
Thanks in advance to my friends, Brittany, Sherry, & Shundria for letting me invade their private hairy lives
…and letting me practice my iPhone/iMovie editing skills.
)
Bottom line? I think I just have to close my eyes and pick.
So here’s my conclusion. I’m gonna wax my lips and thread my eye brows. I will experience both… then… I will try to keep one or both of them up for a time by plucking or shaving.
(Can you just see me in the car on my way to church with a razor scraping the prickly hairs off my upper lip)
What do you think of my plans? Would love to hear from you in the comments.
I will report back soon with my findings.
And then we can move on to other madness for the month of March.
I’ve spent entirely too long on this whole mustache, turned eyebrow, turn chin hair thing.
It’s my kids fault.
If they never would have noticed my ‘stache, we wouldn’t even be here.

What started out as a quest to remove the mustache has grown into so much more.
I figure… at least if I don’t get the hair thing right… at least I’m on my way to being a great videographer.
Any other ideas about meaningless topics I can delve into for the rest of the month?

OMG!! I don’t know where to begin. This was awesome! I am like the young lady who gets my eyebrows waxed every 1-2 months and then clean then up myself. I usually pluck them and have never tried the .99 cent razor thingy but I may have to. Chrystal, you and Priscilla crack me up!! I love you guys!! Tell her that I am looking forward to “Get a good shape and keep the shape up” in Going Beyond!. LOL!! Thank you again for this Chrystal. God bless you as you continue to be used for His glory.
Great videos. 🙂 I used to have my eyebrows waxed every few weeks. Finally I bought my own wax and warmer, so now I wax the little ‘newbie’ hairs myself, trying to avoid messing with the existing shape. And like your friend said, an eyebrow pencil can be very helpful. Great blog. 🙂
Yes! The eyebrow pencil is the the best thing ever! LOL!! Also, youtube videos are very helpful. 🙂
The stuff women DON’T talk about, but SHOULD.
I was introduced to the razor in high school when I became a cheerleader because I was told we needed to look good in the light! As I:ve aged, I have a love hate realtionship with the whole affair. If I didn’t have a husband and these 3 boys who notice everything out of whack – ok and maybe some ppl at my office, I probably won’t care so much.
Whatever you decide is good .. start with a good foundation and keep it up! I got a good foundation and then went right on back to the razor for it all. I do LOVE my little 99cents portable shaver, the best ever invented for touch ups as you get out of the car at church and just happen to look up at the mirror and see some “growth” in the wrong places. 🙂
This was SO fun to watch. I guess next up is LEGS and oh my gosh ARMS .. that one is a NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO – Spring is here and Summer is coming …..
I recommend the laser for the ‘stache area specifically. There are several Groupons out there that make the treatment reasonably priced. That particular area is somewhat painless compared to other laser treatment procedures. My mustache was not very thick and was told the corners were the most stubborn from a removal standpoint. The laser folks told me to stay away from plucking so I have done so and occasionally use a razor to get rid of the strays. My chin area is another story and think I need to move to electrolysis.
Sooo FUNNY w/Priscilla….so REAL with Shundria…so AUTHENTIC with Chrystal…I have done plucking, shaving, waxing, threading. Threading hurts but I prefer it to plucking and it is very precise. Waxing is quicker. Shaving…I’m not accurate. I’ve done them all professionally for a length of time, but finding and keeping a great manicurist for your brows is tough and I am not a good shaper on my own!!!
We think this conversations are shallow but they are important b/c they are the things we think about in our private lives and wonder what others would say if we have the courage to ask. I have struggled with a decision over the last 5 years as to whether or not have my gap closed. I still have it b/c I go back and forth with…it’s become a part of who I am vs. I’d like a undisrupted smile…and I wonder if I would like it either way?? Thoughts??
Thanks Chrystal for opening the door 😉
I love to get my eyebrows/chin tweezed and or waxed, with the right person doing the service, it doesn’t hurt. I am a fan getting my eyebrows razored too. I used to get my eyebrows threaded on a regular, and I stopped. Now if I go to get my eyebrows threaded, it is only once a year or every other year…and that’s because I can’t find anybody else to do them lol. It is an annoying type of pain! My eyes would well up with tears because she had struck/hit a nerve in/around my eye. Regardless of who threads your eyebrows, it hurts and you still feel that same annoying pain. OMG I can’t imagine letting them do my chin and the upper lip. I would go crazy! HOWEVER, you do have a beautiful, well defined set of eyebrows once they are done. I can tolerate pain, but threading is just an annoying would you please stop kind of pain. When I was getting my eyebrows threaded on a regular, I noticed that my eyebrows did not grow back the same. Some areas in my eyebrows were very thin.
I would definitely invest in a good eyebrow pencil. It works wonders!
In my defense, there is Nair for your face!!! And I learned the error of my ways :-). Waxing and Threading for me…for life! I even told my BFF after these blogs that if I am ever laid up in the hospital, that I need her to handle the hairs on my chin and not to be letting me lay up with chin hair!!! Thanks for helping me make sure that was covered…if I am ever incapacitated 🙂
I have a near-uni-brow and a catfish mustache. I can only afford to get them done every few months. When I do, I have them waxed. I cannot take the individual pain of plucking. One fell swoop and done with it is so much more preferable to me. Unfortunately, I really NEED them done every few weeks and not every few months, so in between I just look rough. (Because I hate plucking. Perhaps I need to try the razor or the pencil trick.) But I try to convince myself that the nature of my hair growth makes me look intimidating and scholarly in the way that near-unibrow and catfish mustaches afford me to in my imagination. 😉
Topics… I know you’ve touched on home schooling before but the last time you did I don’t think we were HSing, and since then we have felt God calling us to return to HSing for 4th grade with my daughter next school year. We haven’t HS since kindy and it’s kind of like starting over with a new baby! Speaking of babies, our 3 year old son was born when our daughter was in kindy so we don’t have experience HSing with a kid running around. Tips on keeping the little occupied during school… or anything else… I’m all ears.
MEANINGLESS topics? I don’t know… sore throat remedies? favorite and least favorite smells? I’ve got nothin’.
I would consider the ‘stace topic seriously significant!! Haha! For real…I personally wax my own facial hair…because I’m a) frugal and b) hairy…there’s no getting around the latter! I buy the wax at ulta and microwave, stick it on and build up the courage to tear it off…yikes!! And the upper lip hurts!!! I can do my eyebrows easy…no biggie…but that lip is painful! Ouch!! I’ve tried lots if different options but I won’t spend the money on threading, plus being a homeschool momma, I don’t have the time to have extra salon visits! Though…while on the subject, they have one of those open booths at the mall where people sit in the chair and they start threading your eyebrows and face there in front of the entire world?!? Am I the only person who thinks that’s just not right? I don’t know…the whole idea is to pretend that you have smooth, perfectly hairless features!! Haha! You sit In one of those chairs and the secret is out!!! Can’t wait to read more of the madness!!!
Have you considered laser treatment? VERY pricey, somewhat uncomfortable, but the discomfort only lasts a few minutes and the results are for life! If it was just about hair removal for me, using a facial hair removal cream wouldn’t be a problem. My issue was a five o’clock shadow that never seemed to go away no matter how often I used the cream to remove the longer hairs. I’ve done two of my five laser sessions and the shadow is almost completely gone! I think it is more uncomfortable than waxing but they gave me numbing cream to help with that and I’m really happy with the results so far. I’m going to get one of those 99 cent razors for my eyebrows! Thanks for that tip!
These blogs give me life…hilarious! Love the video with your sisters.
