Podcast: Play in new window
Have you ever felt as if your life experiences disqualified you from achieving your goals? Well, you aren’t alone in that. I hear from women all the time who wonder if it is still possible to reach their dreams based on where they’ve come from or what they’ve been through. They question if they can muster up the faith, gather up their strength, or choose to exercise the discipline necessary to move things forward in their lives. The answer to that question is yes!
Mahisha Dellinger is a woman who would agree with my yes. Mahisha is the founder of CURLS, a natural hair care brand, and on this episode of the podcast she and I talk about how you can overcome setbacks and begin to lead your life with discipline.
Mahisha shares with us her journey from working in corporate America to following her passion and launching a multi-million dollar natural hair care line. Her path as an entrepreneur has required her to have not only discipline, but grit, determination, persistence, and perseverance to be successful. One of my favorite things about my chat with Mahisha is her willingness to admit that along the way she has needed help — and that she has been willing to seek out the help she needed.
I often need to be reminded that it’s okay not to know everything and to ask for the help I need. When we don’t ask for help, we are choosing to stay stuck where we are. Mahisha’s strong commitment to leading her life and not letting her life circumstances lead her offers encouragement to every woman to use what she has while choosing to fight forward.
If you don’t think you are the disciplined type of person who can make your dreams a reality, Mahisha offered encouragement to women who may say they aren’t as naturally disciplined as she is.
I have loved learning about Mahisha Dellinger’s story because she reminds me that anything is possible with prayer, help from others, and discipline. And anything is possible for you too. We can accomplish all that we set our minds to if we will simply take the first step and never look back. Set your goals, step out on faith, and work hard until you get where you want to go.

Hi Chrystal! The last several months deciding to take a step each day towards progress has been a focus for me. Mostly regarding food this has been noticeable (started ketogenic eating lifestyle). Whether I think better with fewer carbs or having a mindset of deciding each day that this is what I am doing causing it, I am growing in confidence and am losing weight. 🙂 I am not disciplined in studies of any kind – start classes, start books, creative works, etc., and get distracted and move on without finishing. Trying to move away from should thinking and comparisons. Major problem is with school in getting my mind to focus on studies and finish at the level I set out to. It is kind of ridiculous. Social media is near impossible to stay away from and is the greatest distraction … other than just willing to get it done. Not sure what it will take to do the “decide to” more frequently in that.
