Podcast: Play in new window
“Who defines our success?” Is it God or is it man? Social media offers us the shame “full” opportunity to compare our lives to others and wonder, “Did God really say I am fearfully and wonderfully and beautifully made?” Our culture provides minute-by-minute snapshots of the “best” of everyone around us — her blemish free faces, her super-trendy style, her clean and organized home, her five honor-roll AND star-athlete kids who all love Jesus and are making right choices.
This is called comparison.
Proverbs 31 author and speaker, Nicki Koziarz, gives listeners a chance to define their “comparison zone,” and discover the heart of the question in her new book, Why Her? She offers the paradox that comparison is a God-struggle, yet gives God-truths to realign our hearts and affirm our worth in Christ. While Nicki and I explore the journey to satisfaction and contentment in becoming who God created us to be in this world, Nicki also tackles the story of Rachel and Leah and shares, with honesty and revelation, how she’s personally faced the battle of comparison herself.
If you find yourself looking at her and wondering why you don’t…., can’t…, aren’t… like her, join me in this podcast and let’s reign in that comparison-struggle together.

Good topic. Love and have lived the story of Leah, maybe this time…..Comparison is one of those secret sins and we dare not say the word jealous. It’s ok to admire people especially when we see Jesus in them, but wanting what another has. For me we forfeit the promise of being made in the very image of God for His glory and purposes. I can’t truly love out Gods glory while wanting to live out anothers story. I believe it is possible to break free once you truly embrace the masterpiece of who you are and the uniqueness of your story. We weren’t made to be cookie cutter but uniquely designed puzzle pieces that fit together and work together. And comparison and jealousy hinders that. Hinders us from stirring up gifts in one another and truly being grateful for what another person brings to the table. If God is truly our audience then we all have a platform.
I never really battled with comparison much it was more low self esteem and not seeing the worth in me because nobody spoke it to me. Nobody really said hey you are really great at this or you are so beautiful. I just wanted people to like me so competition and comparison didn’t really fit in that equation. I also didn’t like how jealousy treated me so I never wanted to be jealous. Then having a special needs daughter as my first child quickly took away the comparing my children because honestly she will never add up and I never wanted her to feel like she was supposed to.
I wrote down a quote from Nicki earlier but I left it at work in my sketchbook! So sad lol. Something about how she SHIFTED and chose to praise instead of settle and be sad. This is me. I soo enjoyed today’s podcast (as I do them all). Thank you, Chrystal. Thank you for still pouring into others despite all you have to juggle. May God continue to heal you, bless and provide. -Shani
AMAZING!!! The story of my life is rooted in comparison. I was raised to believe I was never good enough. Now, I’m on a mission to not only to Spring clean my mind, but allow God to eternally clean my heart of the lies I’ve been told for years which had fed my insecurity to this day. So. Very. Grateful.
