Me.
Comfortable in my own skin?
Hmmm… well I can say that somewhere between the rocky road of adolescence and my fabulous forties, I’ve learned more about myself. I’ve learned what it means to appreciate who I am and the unique soul I have in this world.
I’ve learned to appreciate the gift of me.
Does that mean I’m always 100% comfortable in my own skin? Nah… I wish! What it does mean is that along the journey I’ve learned the value of loving myself because the God of the universe loves me too and approves of me because I am His.
He may not always approve of everything I do. But I have the choice everyday to walk worthy of His calling and purposes for my life.
So what do you do when you want to be comfortable in your skin but are still struggling to do so? Beyond developing your life, how do you encourage yourself to “keep-on-keeping-on” when you really feel like hunkering down in the ditch you’ve fallen into?
Here’s the answer.
You have to learn to coach yourself.
You have to learn how to be your own best friend and care for yourself — your head, your heart, and your hands — the same way you would care for someone you love. You must learn what it is to choose gratitude, honesty, and freedom to be you — even in the midst of the circle of people you find yourself in.
You choose to believe that, despite how you feel, you are a unique unrepeatable miracle. You learn how to coax your girl out of the shadows and gently bring her into the light.
You learn how to stop making excuses for who she is but revel in what makes her different and praise God for how she is fearfully and wonderfully made. You honor you because God has honored the girl in you with life!
You choose to steward that life well –the best way you know how — even while you learn to do better in the pursuit of self-stewardship.
And you learn how to rock “you”.
You learn how to make peace with your body even while you work on making it better.
You learn how to give up trying to look like everyone else and enjoy looking more like you.
You learn how to try new things instead of sticking with the same people, places, or things out of routine or even out of fear.
You learn how to invite people along for the ride of life but don’t get derailed if they choose not to come.
You learn to take chances because you trust that the God who loves you and created you is capable of catching you if you fall.
And you learn how to kick it in Converse…
Because if God has freed you up to be you, and the shoe fits?
By all means… wear it.

Love the podcasts. I am 76 years old. I live in a senior high rise. I volunteer with P31 Ministries. I am currently in Duluth, MN. I have friends but not a friend. I have lost over sixty pounds in ten months. I am lonely and get depressed. I am currently looking at a move to Texas where I have a best friend and many great P31 sisters. Most of all I love my Lord and Savior. I am really looking forward to our P31 OBS and doing it with friends around the world.
So glad to have you join the P31 study! Praying you find connection and that God gives you an opportunity for new fellowship!
Hi Chrystal, thank you for sharing your heart. Your family’s various ministries have been an encouragement to me in a very dark valley. In the midst of my heartbreak, I’m holding onto faith that God can still work a miracle. I’ve been listening to your dad’s sermons every night and finding hope in the storm. I’m hoping to make it down from PA to Dallas for the Pursuit singles summit.
Hello, Chrystal I want to say thank you so much for your story. I purchased the book last week. So grateful for you. I look up to you. Please keep doing your podcast it helps many Women like myself to keep going. God bless you.?
I love listening to your podcasts. You are truly my invisible friend that I would connect with instantly. Because you are down to earth and very relatable. I’ve listened to all your “She’s Still there” stories and cried my eyes out on the first two. At 44, I feel lost and I have drifted so far and really trying to figure out how and when and is she really still there. I do my share of self negative talk which you addressed on today’s podcast.
Are you comfortable in your own skin? Why or why not? Not all all. Sadly I rarely feel like I belong.
Do you practice self-coaching? What does it look like for you? I will start doing so because I rehearse too much the lies that the enemy whispers to me.
Choices to move forward? No presently. I feel “stuck”. I ‘hate’ my job but it pays well and do it from home.
what makes me different? I am o a journey of self discovery to let God’s Word tell me again that I am His masterpiece and actually believe it. I’ve been a wife, a mom, daughter, sister, and friend. I am different in the sense that I LOVE to read and learn new things.
I signed up for the study via P31 with my book in tow. Keep up the good work
Chyrstal, you have been such an inspiration to me. I am 56 years young and have daughters 31 and 28 years of age. I share your nuggets with them periodically. Your transparent and real approach is refreshing and unapologetic. I have the book “She’s Still There” and have convinced a book club I participate in to read it. We will review and discuss in October and I cannot wait.
You are making a difference!
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Chrystal,
I love todays podcast. I read some of the comments and Myriam and Karen really jumped out at me. First, I would like to say to these women stay encourage for God is Faithful.
I am also going through some difficult times and what helped me in the beginning was fasting from TV and being quite with God. As I continued to wait on God and pray my own negative self talk began to take over. I again had to return to the word and replace those with what God’s word says about me. I woke up this morning with a worship in my heart and one phrase “God is Faithful”.
Your podcast helps to let me know I’m not alone in my struggles and it gave some great tools to help break some of my habits that are preventing me form moving forward in my purpose.
Thank you and God Bless
Chystal, you have no idea how your life is impacting the world. Can you believe I am writing this all the way from East Africa in a very unknown country called Tanzania…I cant purchase your book online because such services are not available in my country…but i have managed to download part 1 through P31obs because that is what i can afford for now and guess what the first part just put me in an awe because it is like i am reading my own story…at some levels i was like why is this lady having a chapter in her booking basing on my story!!!!…you know that part of crying in the car thinking that my life is ending any moment…and asking God to just strike the world with heavy thunder so that everything can hit restart button…going to work everyday like i am going to be slaughtered…i mean its my story and just recently i had that heavy feeling like my chest was about to burst open because life is not going the way i pictured…36 and single…i want to go to Dallas Theological Seminar because i feel like i am called to do ministry but it is so dark i cant even think where to start…four years i have that call in me and i see no signs of me going to DTS…crying almost everyday on my way to work because i know for sure this is not the work i am called to do…but who knows me to believe that i am called or even to sponsor me to study at DTS…but after reading the small part of your book i know for sure “I WILL BE OK” and “I AM OK”….Thank you Chystal…I love you from afar…This is so my vulnerable moment ever…i havent done something like this before but i thought i should get this out of my chest so that i can breath
So glad to hear from you Pearl! Yes. You are okay. I’m so glad you left me a comment so that I could hear more of your story. God does see you and I’m happy that you were able to get chapter 1 of the book and that you were encouraged. Have you ever considered the seminary program online? That’s always an option.
OMG!!!…thank you Chrystal for taking time to respond…I will ask them and see if I can do an online class…wonder why I didnt think that before…I love you Chrystal
