Podcast: Play in new window
Change is hard.
I’ve spent the last week moving and the move has been tough. I can’t find my cups and the important papers that were on my desk are buried in a box somewhere.
I still have to update my address at the post office, refill the fridge, and switch the phone service. And my toothbrush? I just gave up looking for it and bought another one.
Change takes work.
Since I’m in the middle of my own set of major changes, I thought I’d share some tips for making it through your season of change well.
We are creatures of habit and any shift in our routines require us to think more and expend more energy doing all of the things we have to do. No more driving on autopilot to get from home to work. Traffic patterns are new and alternate routes must be learned.
Change can be painful. When your health is at stake, the change in diet, exercise, or life pace can be difficult to navigate. When you lose your job fear and anxiety can set in. And when a loved one dies and the phone doesn’t ring as often sharp pangs in the heart abound.
But change can also be good. Change wake us up to the fragility, uncertainty, and temporary nature of life….if you will let it. It makes us more appreciative for what we have, have had, and gives us hope for what new experiences can come our way.
You can make it through this season of change and come through on the other side doing well. I pray that today’s tips help you towards that end.
Life is change. The longer you live, the more you know that the only thing constant in this life is change.
Accept change, welcome change, find the silver lining in it.

Love these tips! I love #2 leave room for margin and #3 be kind to yourself.
Thanks for listening Michelle! I think #3 is one of my favs too!
OH MY!!!! I so needed to listen to this today. Chrystal, God is using you to touch so many lives of sisters like me battling through this journey called life. Reminding myself daily of the One who has conquered the battle already. I too moved recently since we (husband and I) downsized to a smaller space. Smaller closets, smaller kitchen….smaller. I have started new jobs over a period of time due to circumstances outside of my control. I have entered a season in life in my body that is not friendly and brings with it an unannounced and unwelcome furnace. Whaaaat! Change has been a constant. So all of the tips you shared today hit home with me, but the one I will be intentional to remember are “look for the lovely” and “trust in the one who never changes”! I can certainly do that. Responding slowly, giving myself space and margin are usually not my norm. None the less I will do it.
Listening today was very calming, and almost seemed like I was there with you as I responded as you were speaking. Affirming your words, and totally relating. =)
So glad you took the time to vacation and refresh! Time is so swiftly moving.
Keep doing what you do.
Thanks for listening Sharon! So glad you were encouraged…
How interesting that I would find your podcast while my employer’s customers are presently forcing us to change the works of our hands. Without any explanation or notice. Again.
So I’d like to thank you for sharing this with us. Your son isn’t the only man who notices that men aren’t talking too much about these very practical things. And I do confess that for some reason your statement here has caused me to take a different look at eternity. Very refreshing indeed. Thanks again.
Oh boy … I just moved too and was berating myself for not having my art up as fast as my roomate (it’s been 6 weeks) because honestly I haven’t prioritized that as something that needs to be done right away It’s also partially because I’ve moved so much i just do the basics (the last time i didn’t put them up at all and I know I’ll be moving again the next few years so why bother?). I will give myself the grace to run my own grace and to work through mu own demons at my own pace. I will therefore choose to celebrate her achievement and use it as motivation to get my own stuff done, knowingthat while this move isn’t permanent, for right now this is home. Selah
