Podcast: Play in new window
I ran my first marathon on December 14th.
December 14th may turn out to be my last marathon.
The jury is still out.
In the meantime, I have taken to analyzing my run and extracting lessons both for the future of my running (I haven’t been running outdoors since) and the future of my life.
And there are lots of lessons to be learned.
Today, I chat on the podcasts about how my race almost killed me… not physically, although that could have been a reality as well, but emotionally and mentally. I knew that the marathon would be a mental race but good grief!
I really had no idea.
Listen in! You’ll be glad you did.
The takeaway from today?
Be fearless
Don’t Quit.
Don’t pull up or give in.
Keep going.
Finish.
Finish even if it’s killing you.

Incredible podcast!
So proud of you and thank you for the inspiration to keep running my race!
Chrystal, what an inspiring and touching story. I am especially moved by the part where your kids and hubby came to support you, and then became a part of your struggle on your journey. How loving you were to allow them to run with you. How selfless you were not to let your hard work get in the way of possibly injuring the spirits of your children who came to support you. How patient and godly you were not to let their honest words make you give up. Mostly, how gracious of God to give you the physical and mental strength to allow a moment a lot of people will never have. In such a physical and mental taxing event, it was clearly God who carried you… and your whole family! Congratulations on running your race and meeting your goal. Praise God for your blessing that has yet to show many glories for the Lord through your testimony, your ministry, your kids, and your hubby, as through the years you will EACH have this moment to tell. God loves you!
Great job Chrystal on completing your first marathon. What an amazing accomplishment. Keep running and hope to see you on the pavement soon.
What a great podcast!!! I’m going to keep on going. Righ now, I feel so stuck (work, financial, singleness). But, I am going to keep going. God will work it all out.
Chrystal, You inspire me weekly. I am so glad I found your podcast. I am a huge fan of your dad and sister, and a greater fan of you. Blessings!!!
OK, “That was amazing”, is what immediately came out of my mouth while you were finishing up your talk and the music began to play. Hands down, this was the best podcast! Thank you Ms. Chrystal. I needed this and my son needs this (he will be listening to it later today; he just doesn’t know it yet). I am in a constant battle with myself about giving up (but never really giving up) because I have so far to go and because it’s so hard (getting fit). I can go on and on. I knew that you understood the pain and the struggle, but it really helps to hear it again. Thank you. So, my “take away” is this: Satan will forever and always passionately pursue us at every turn in life, so be prepared. We must continue to pursue God and trust His strength, His power, His discipline…We must suffer (mortify our flesh)! There is absolutely no other way, if we are to succeed. Your story is powerful. You lost weight, eat properly, exercise regularly, (and you look amazing) and he (Satan) still comes for you from many different directions on your quest to succeed. Chrystal Dear, you set the goal to run the race, but it was always much bigger than any race, for you, and certainly for your listeners. Thank you for allowing God to speak to me, through you.
Chrystal, I loved this podcast! Thank you for the reminder not to look at other’s journey while you are on your own. This podcast really made my day. I will be listening to it again on my way home from work. Thank you for sharing your journey to the marathon with us. I have truly enjoyed it.
