Dear Chrystal,
I love how you are starting this series. Funny how you talking about voices speaking to us. You have the voice of truth and then you have the voice of discouragement. I would like to share with you something that happened to me while I was in graduate school. I had a lot on my plate over the last couple of months and trying to keep up with everyone’s demands is not an easy task. It was getting to the point where I was becoming frustrated instead of enjoying what I love to do; sing. With each day, I became more frustrated to the point that I ran into the bathroom and cried. The voices of doubt were becoming stronger. I called my parents to explain to them what was going on and my mom said very calmly that everything would be all right. Afterwards, I ran into a friend who saw the pitiful look on my face and began preaching to me on how she never wants to see me looking like that again. What I came to realize was my problem was I was in the way. I had literally started to take over God’s place. I was doing things by my hand that was causing me so much trouble. God was speaking to me through my mom and this other person who could clearly see this happening to me. That evening, I went straight home and fell on my knees and prayed. Those voices were gone. The next day was a new day and I knew that by letting go and trusting in Him, it would be all right. I am thankful to say that I graduated with a master’s in music [voice performance]. God is good.
You were talking to me!
