We’ve talked a LOT about motherhood this month. But for the remainder of May, I want to zoom out, gain a wider perspective, and talk about why motherhood is so important.

It’s important for us to understand that motherhood is just one form of discipleship. And Jesus clearly calls us to celebrate and display His love through making disciples!

Discipleship is the ministry of every believer, whether that’s taking care of young kids, guiding adult children, teaching a class, intentionally hanging out with friends, or having encouraging conversations. As believers who have been saved by grace, it is our JOY to show others the same love we’ve been shown and to live a life that looks like Christ’s. His life was marked by encouraging others, listening, challenging, asking questions, and coming alongside broken people. We get to do the same!

Whether you are a mom or not, you are a disciple first.

Today, I chat with Susie Davis about the concept of spiritual mothering & discipleship. We talk about what a mentor is, what it looks like to mentor others, how to seek out a mentor, and why it’s actually simpler than we may think.

Susie knows she has the spiritual gift of encouragement, and she intentionally finds way to use her gift as a way to make disciples. She has discovered that the biggest part to being a mentor is simply being available. She invites us to identify our own gifts, or things that come naturally to us, and creatively turn those gifts into tools for discipleship. Susie simply said yes to God’s call and allowed the gifts God had given her to unfold organically.

Whether you have a heart for hospitality or encouragement or something completely different — you can make disciples and be a spiritual mama. All you have to do is be available. Say yes. It may be a little out of your comfort zone at first, but the joy that follows is so worth it.

Listen to my conversation with Susie for encouragement, practical advice, and Truth!
