Podcast: Play in new window
For the next couple of months I’ll be sharing She’s Still There Stories on the podcast. What is a She’s Still There Story? It’s the journey of a woman who discovers or rediscovers herself despite disappointment, detours, difficulties, or even disaster. While I wrote She’s Still There to share some of my own journey, She’s Still There isn’t just about my story — it’s about the story that many women share. It’s about an idea that each of us has the power to encourage another by owning our stories and sharing our stories too.
Today’s guest is no stranger to living through difficult circumstances. Valorie Burton is a best selling author, speaker and life coach. Whether from the stage when she speaks, or by way of her writing and coaching, Valorie is helping women to shift their focus to what’s right in their lives rather than what’s wrong. She encourages us all to get unstuck and to be unstoppable.
On this episode we’re talk about maintaining hope after divorce.Valorie shares how she made the choice to be better not bitter despite painful circumstances. She speaks openly and honestly about the practical ways in which she embraced her life and what decisions she made to keep moving forward. While the road leading away from dark places usually takes time to travel, Valorie offers wisdom that will give others the courage to decide to do the work necessary to get stronger and to lead a healthier and happier life.
Valorie prayed this prayer for herself and now I am praying it for you: May God restore your soul to where it was before any of things happened that may have skewed your view of love and of who He is. I pray that as you listen to this podcast there will be renewal and restoration from past and/or current hurts. Because the girl you always wanted to be or never knew you would be, She’s Still There.

You have been so great to join me on the journey here on the blog, I hope you jump right in do the same on the podcast!
This podcast was one of those podcasts. Lol I think I never had the ability to know real love. That’s was my early age thinking. No one really engaged me or cared that I existed, I just walked around thinking that was normal. Now that I’m grown love means sacrifice. Love meant that there is a God who saw me and heard me and sent his sob for me.
I know with my circumstances I need to decide what’s healthy and God honoring. It’s so easy to walk into traps and get stuck because I’m not aware how this affects my current state and my future.I need to decide on God and not me. .
This podcast has blessed me so much!!! Thank you both for your transparency. Whether you’re recovering from divorce, or another major life transition, there is hope on the other side. “He restores my soul.”
Wow Amazing how someone can feel exactly how you feel. This blessed my heart so much. Thank You Chrystal and God Bless You. This is me everything Valerie said I am going thru but I’ve felt alone. I know I’m going to get thru because hope is all I have. My story wasn’t what God has for me n I’m soul searching all over again for who Am I..God Bless You Both.
Very touching. Because there are similarities to my own testimony here. I’m still a bit disturbed that not enough men are talking about these types of things, but I’m surely grateful that someone is, and at length. It’s important. And we thank you for sharing in this open format Blessings…
This was a great podcast. Thank you, Valorie, for your transparency.
There have been times when things in my life have truly left me wondering where God was. And Valerie’s story about moving back closer to home after her divorce resonated so much with me. I was alone for much of my pregnancy and when I was around 30 weeks I finally moved back to my parents house. I want to be clear, none of this was what I wanted. I wanted to be able to do it on my own and be independent. God had other plans. I’m still a work in progress, but I’m so thankful of how far I’ve come. I love that in this podcast the reminder was that it’s okay not to be perfect all the time and to fight through our feelings. I am often the one who seems to have it all together, at least in appearance, but more times than I can count I feel like I’m barely holding it together on the inside…..and I loved that Valerie said it was okay to let that show sometimes too.
I have the privilege of ministering to incarcerated women. So, the concept of “…it can be a ‘habit’ (for many people) to be ‘stuck’ in life” resonated with me. I believe it is a factor I have vicariously known through encountering these women. And, while many women are impacted through the ministry outreach programs being offered in jail/prisons today, recidivism is still a colossal problem.
Has your view of God and/or love been skewed by past or present circumstances?
What decision(s) do you need to make to move towards a happier and healthier life?
Through the jail/prison ministry relationship, my marital separation and widowhood, has kept me in remembrance of God’s faithfulness. Particularly, on the days when my faithfulness to God is in question; He exacts His perfected strength in my weakness. My mother’s mantra is “…one day at a time, baby…one day at a time.”
I believe the decisions I must make going forward is to simply “DECIDE!”
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And I agree with your mom 😉 “One day at a time”
I love this! I discovered your book through a recommendation on Audible after I bought “Uninvited” by Lysa TerKeurst. Your book has blessed me and I have listened to five of these podcasts. This one really hit home. Right on time. Thank you for your transparency. SHE’S STILL THERE!!
